EV Battery Recycling Market Size, Growth Rate and Regional Outlook to 2034: LFP, NMC and Asia Pacific
The EV battery recycling market grows from USD 4.45 billion in 2025 to USD 19 billion in 2034 at a 16.76% CAGR, with LFP and Asia Pacific setting the pace.
Market size and growth rate
The EV battery recycling market is worth USD 4.45 billion in 2025, the base year of the study. The forecast takes it to USD 19 billion by 2034, a CAGR of 16.76% across 2026-2034. The rate runs evenly through the period. No ramp is applied at either end.
The history behind that rate is steep. Revenue was USD 1.2 billion in 2020 and USD 3.5 billion in 2024, a compound growth rate of 29.97% before the forecast period begins. The forecast continues the observed trend at a lower rate and does not propose a turn. That matters for how much weight the 2034 figure can carry: it extends a pattern already on the record.
Two other paths bracket the base case. The downside path ends 2034 at USD 14.2 billion and the upside path at USD 22.8 billion. Both start from the same USD 4.45 billion in 2025.
What is driving it
Growth is concentrated in one battery chemistry. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) compounds at 22.45% against 16.76% for the market. Its revenue moves from USD 1.335 billion in 2025 to USD 8.835 billion in 2034, and its share of revenue from 30% to 46.5%. It is the line pulling the average up.
The market rate depends on LFP holding that pace. Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) records 7.48%. A revenue base compounding at that rate would reach a materially smaller 2034 total. Position on the battery chemistry axis is therefore a growth decision for a supplier, and a product decision only second.
Geography adds a second concentration. Asia Pacific is the largest regional base at USD 2.403 billion in 2025, or 54% of the global total. It reaches USD 9.405 billion by 2034 and still holds 49.5%. Europe is next at 20% of revenue, with USD 0.89 billion in 2025 and USD 3.895 billion in 2034. Both the existing revenue and the revenue added sit mostly in these two regions, so regional weighting matters more to a forecast than the number of regions covered.
Readers comparing adjacent waste markets will find a different regional pattern. In the ship recycling market, Asia Pacific holds 66% of revenue. In this market it holds 54%, with Europe a clear second.
What could slow it
The downside path rests on four assumptions. Enforcement of recycled-content rules slips. Metal prices fall and stay low. More retired packs go to second-life use before they reach a recycler. New plants take longer to reach their rated throughput. On those terms the market ends 2034 at USD 14.2 billion against USD 19 billion in the base case.
Chemistry mix is a second constraint. Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (NMC) carries 38% of 2025 revenue, worth USD 1.691 billion. It compounds at 13.7% against 16.76% for the market. Its share falls to 30% by 2034 even as its revenue rises to USD 5.7 billion. Because it carries so much of the base, its pace holds the blended rate down more than any faster line lifts it.
That exposure is a challenge in its own right. A market leaning on one battery chemistry line concentrates its risk there, and a shift in demand for that line moves the total more than any other single change on the axis.
Country concentration follows the same logic. China accounts for 74.91% of Asia Pacific revenue: USD 1.8 billion against the region's USD 2.403 billion in 2025, and USD 6.6 billion by 2034. Read as a region, Asia Pacific looks diversified. Read by weight, it is one market, and the regional forecast inherits whatever happens there.
The upside case gives the other side of these risks. Recycled-content and recovery rules are enforced on schedule across Europe, North America and Asia. Early vehicle cohorts retire faster than fleet curves imply. Metal prices stay high enough to keep recycling margins strong. On those assumptions the market reaches USD 22.8 billion by 2034.
Where the growth sits
Regional shares of 2025 revenue run as follows:
- Asia Pacific: 54%
- Europe: 20%
- North America: 19%
- Middle East and Africa: 4%
- Latin America: 3%
Asia Pacific leads with 54% of global revenue through 2034. North America and Europe together cover the next tier, and the remaining two regions are small. Compare that with the smart waste management market, where North America leads with 33%, or the food waste management market, where Europe leads with 32%. Battery recycling is the more Asia-weighted of the three.
By battery chemistry, the 2025 shares are:
- NMC: 38%
- LFP: 30%
- Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide (NCA): 10%
- Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LCO): 9%
- Lead Acid: 8%
- NiMH: 3%
- Lithium Manganese Oxide (LMO): 2%
NMC is the largest line today. LFP is the line gaining share, reaching 46.5% in 2034 while NMC falls to 30%. The two cross inside the forecast period, and the data places that shift on the chemistry axis rather than in any one region.
LFP is also where an entrant has the most room. It adds revenue at scale without requiring a supplier to displace the incumbent position in NMC.
The study segments the market on ten axes in total: battery chemistry, recycling process, battery source, material recovered, feedstock type, business model, battery format, output product, service stage and end use of recovered material. Within the recycling process axis the options are hydrometallurgical, pyrometallurgical, physical or mechanical, and combined or hybrid processes. The full EV battery recycling market report carries the detail behind each axis, with coverage of all five regions: North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East and Africa.
