Market Analysis & Outlook
Truck cranes are lifting machines built onto a self-propelled truck chassis that combine highway travel speed with on-site lifting capacity, distinguishing them from crawler and rough-terrain cranes that must be transported to a job site by trailer. They range from light-duty units used for utility and municipal lifting work to extra-heavy units capable of handling wind-turbine components and large structural steel sections. Buyers are principally construction contractors, crane-rental fleets, utility and power-transmission companies, and port and logistics operators who need a crane that can move between sites under its own power.
Growth of 7% a year carries the global truck cranes market from USD 9.65 billion in 2025 to USD 17.7 billion in 2034. The full series behind that rate covers USD 6.8 billion in 2020, USD 9.05 billion in 2024, USD 10.3 billion in 2026 and USD 13.6 billion in 2030, with 2025 as the base year.
On the type axis, growth rates run from 4.33% for Light Truck Cranes up to 9.92% for Extra-heavy Truck Cranes. Medium Truck Cranes carries the volume: USD 3.38 billion and 35.03% of revenue in 2025, USD 5.66 billion and 31.98% in 2034. Share moves toward Heavy Truck Cranes and Extra-heavy Truck Cranes and away from Light Truck Cranes and Medium Truck Cranes, though no line shrinks in revenue terms.
Cut by application, the largest line is Road Transportation: 31.92% of 2025 revenue, worth USD 3.08 billion, and 30% at USD 5.31 billion by 2034. Port grows faster at 8.22% against 6.24%, moving from 18.03% of revenue to 20% by 2034. Both this axis and the type one divide the same revenue, which is why they are alternative views, not components.
Asia Pacific is the largest region at 41.97% of 2025 revenue, worth USD 4.05 billion and reaching USD 8.14 billion by 2034. North America follows at 20%, moving from USD 1.93 billion to USD 3.01 billion, and Latin America is the smallest at 7.98%. Share shifts toward Asia Pacific and Middle East and Africa over the forecast period, so the regional split repays a close reading.
Behind these figures sit five regions, four type lines and five segmentation axes, each reported for every year from 2020 to 2034. The headline 2025 value is triangulated from published sources and category proxies, with no independently sourced count behind it, and the same applies to the segment, regional and country breakdowns drawn from it.

- Against a base case of USD 17.7 billion in 2034, the study also reports a bear case at USD 15.22 billion and a bull case at USD 20.09 billion, with the assumptions behind each set out separately.
- 41.97% of 2025 revenue is generated in Asia Pacific, worth USD 4.05 billion and rising to USD 8.14 billion by 2034; Latin America is smallest at 7.98%.
- 55.06% of Asia Pacific's base-year revenue comes from China alone: USD 2.23 billion in 2025, rising to USD 4.48 billion by 2034, which is why it is that region's worked example.
- The study covers 2020 through 2034 with 2025 as the base year, reporting five regions and five segmentation axes separately, with revenue, share and a growth rate for every line in each year.
Market Trends
Revenue Share, By By Type
Base year 2025Medium Truck Cranes leads with 35.0% of by type segment revenue.
Share of by type segment revenue, most recent base year.
Three things move over 2026-2034, and they are worth separating: the type mix, the regional balance, and the 7% compounding underneath both.
All three are changes in mix, not in direction: nothing contracts, and the movement is in which lines and regions absorb the new revenue.
Extra-heavy Truck Cranes grows at more than twice the pace of Light Truck Cranes. Extra-heavy Truck Cranes grows at 9.92% across 2026-2034 against 4.33% for Light Truck Cranes, the widest spread on the type axis. Extra-heavy Truck Cranes takes its share of revenue from 18.03% to 23% while Light Truck Cranes gives up ground, from 15.03% to 11.98%. Revenue rises on both sides; USD 1.74 billion to USD 4.07 billion and USD 1.45 billion to USD 2.12 billion respectively, so this is a change in composition, not a contraction, and one forecast window is long enough for it to matter.
The regional balance moves. Asia Pacific moves from 41.97% of revenue in 2025 to 45.99% in 2034, worth USD 4.05 billion rising to USD 8.14 billion; Middle East and Africa moves from 12.02% of revenue in 2025 to 14.01% in 2034, worth USD 1.16 billion rising to USD 2.48 billion. The offsetting side is North America at 20% moving to 17.01%, Europe at 18.03% moving to 15.99%, Latin America at 7.98% moving to 7.01%, none of which contracts. The practical consequence is that regional weighting decides whether a participant matches the market rate or trails it, regardless of how its own revenue reads.
The series never breaks trajectory. Fifteen years of revenue run USD 6.8 billion in 2020, USD 9.05 billion in 2024, USD 9.65 billion in 2025, USD 10.3 billion in 2026, USD 13.6 billion in 2030 and USD 17.7 billion in 2034. There is no discontinuity to time, and 7% forecast growth against 7.25% historical means the trend continues and does not turn. The risk in the number sits in the mix assumptions, not in whether the market grows at all, which is where the type and regional sections come in.
Market Growth Factors
Growth is concentrated in Extra-heavy Truck Cranes
Market Drivers
3- 01Growth is concentrated in Extra-heavy Truck Cranes
Extra-heavy Truck Cranes compounds at 9.92% against 7% for the market, rising from USD 1.74 billion in 2025 to USD 4.07 billion in 2034 and from 18.03% of revenue to 23%. Nothing else on the axis grows as fast (Light Truck Cranes manages 4.33%) so the blended 7% is carried by this one line instead of shared across them. Where a supplier sits on this axis therefore decides whether it grows with the market or below it.
- 02Growth lands where the revenue already is
The largest regional base is Asia Pacific: USD 4.05 billion in 2025 at 41.97% of the global total, USD 8.14 billion by 2034 and 45.99%. Behind it, North America holds 20%; USD 1.93 billion rising to USD 3.01 billion. Most of the base and most of the growth sit in those two, and a plan spread evenly across regions therefore over-invests outside them.
- 03Fifteen years of unbroken growth underpin the forecast
USD 6.8 billion in 2020, USD 9.05 billion in 2024 and USD 9.65 billion in 2025: 7.25% compound growth before the forecast period even begins. The forecast period then runs at 7%, ending 2034 at USD 17.7 billion. With the trajectory already demonstrated over fifteen years, what remains uncertain is the mix, not the direction, which is where the segment and regional sections do the work.
Growth drivers

Restraints
| # | Restraint | Impact | Estimated reduction (Billion) | 2026-28 | 2029-31 | 2032-34 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Steel and component input cost volatility | Medium-High | −0.65 | High | Medium | Low |
| 2 | Financing and equipment leasing rate pressure | Medium | −0.5 | Medium | Medium | Low |
| Total | −1.15 | |||||
Drivers contribute 9.2 Billion and restraints remove 1.15 Billion, a net 8.05 Billion, which is the revenue the market adds between the base year and 2034. Contributions are CDI estimates, apportioned so that they reconcile with the forecast rather than being read from it.
Three sources account for the growth to 2034: 7% compounding across the base, share moving toward the faster type lines, and above-market expansion in the leading regions.
Restraining Factors
Downside case: USD 15.22 billion by 2034, against USD 17.7 billion in the base case
Market Restraints
2- 01Downside case: USD 15.22 billion by 2034, against USD 17.7 billion in the base case
The study's downside path assumes the bear case assumes tighter equipment financing and delayed public infrastructure disbursements slow new crane purchases, pushing operators to extend replacement cycles on existing fleets instead, and ends 2034 at USD 15.22 billion against the USD 17.7 billion base case, the same USD 9.65 billion base year, a slower forecast period.
- 02Medium Truck Cranes grows below the market rate
Medium Truck Cranes carries 35.03% of 2025 revenue at USD 3.38 billion but compounds at 5.93% against 7% for the market, taking its share to 31.98% by 2034 even as revenue rises to USD 5.66 billion. Because it carries that much of the base, its pace holds the blended rate down more than any faster line lifts it.
Market Opportunities
Upside case: USD 20.09 billion by 2034
Market Opportunities
2- 01Upside case: USD 20.09 billion by 2034
The bull case assumes infrastructure and utility capital budgets are approved on schedule and steel input costs ease, letting fleet replacement and rough-terrain crane orders clear faster than in the base case. On that assumption the market reaches USD 20.09 billion by 2034 against USD 17.7 billion in the base case, from the same USD 9.65 billion in 2025.
- 02Extra-heavy Truck Cranes is where share changes hands
Extra-heavy Truck Cranes grows at 9.92% against 7% for the market, adding revenue from USD 1.74 billion in 2025 to USD 4.07 billion in 2034 and taking its share from 18.03% to 23%. It is the place on this axis where share changes hands at scale, so it is where an entrant can take position without displacing the incumbent in Medium Truck Cranes.
Market Challenges
Revenue is concentrated in Medium Truck Cranes
Market Challenges
2- 01Revenue is concentrated in Medium Truck Cranes
One line dominates: Medium Truck Cranes, at 35.03% of revenue in 2025 and 31.98% in 2034, worth USD 3.38 billion and USD 5.66 billion. That concentration means the market's own forecast is, to a large extent, a forecast for one type line.
- 02China is 55.06% of Asia Pacific
Asia Pacific is worth USD 4.05 billion in 2025 and USD 2.23 billion of that is China; 55.06% of the region, reaching USD 4.48 billion in 2034. The consequence is that regional risk here is really country risk wearing a larger label.
Segmentation Analysis
5 axesThe market is divided by type and by application, end-use industry, boom type and drive configuration; five axes in all. Revenue does not add across them: each is a different cut of the same total.
There are four lines on the type axis, and all of them grow in revenue between 2025 and 2034. What separates them is share: two gain it, the rest give it up.

| Extra-heavy Truck Cranes | $1.74B | 18% | $4.07B | 23%+5 | 9.9% |
Medium truck cranes lead today on sheer breadth of use across general construction and municipal work, while heavy units overtake them by the end of the forecast as infrastructure and utility projects specify larger lifts more often. Extra-heavy units grow fastest because wind-turbine installation and large structural-steel projects increasingly require capacity that lighter classes cannot provide. By 2034 the largest line is Heavy Truck Cranes and no longer Medium Truck Cranes, the one axis here where the order actually changes. Every year of the series is priced on this axis, making it the reference cut for the rest of the report.

| Others | $1.93B | 20% | $3.72B | 21%+1 | 7.6% |
Road Transportation leads because general-purpose lifting and recovery work along highway and utility corridors recurs across nearly every region, giving it the broadest and steadiest order base. Port grows fastest as container throughput expansion and new terminal capacity projects add lifting requirements that did not exist on the prior fleet, pulling demand forward faster than the market overall. By 2034 Road Transportation is still ahead, making this a shift in weight, not a change of leader.

| Mining | $0.77B | 8% | $1.59B | 9%+1 | 8.4% |
Construction leads because building and public-infrastructure work is the single largest and most geographically distributed source of lifting demand across every capacity class. Mining grows fastest as operators replace aging fleets and expand capacity at a small number of large sites, so a handful of orders can shift the segment's growth rate well above the broader market's pace. Construction remains the largest line through 2034, so the axis changes in proportion, not in order.

| Knuckle Boom (Articulated) | $1.74B | 18% | $3.72B | 21%+3 | 8.8% |
Telescopic boom units lead because they remain the default configuration across most capacity classes, offering straightforward reach without the added mechanical complexity of a folding arm. Knuckle boom units grow faster as contractors handling municipal and utility work in congested urban settings value the reduced footprint and folding reach that telescopic booms cannot match on tight sites. Knuckle Boom (Articulated) outgrows every other line on this axis, narrowing the gap to Telescopic Boom. Telescopic Boom remains the largest line through 2034, so the axis changes in proportion, not in order.

| Two-Wheel Drive | $4.34B | 45% | $7.08B | 40%-5 | 5.6% |
All-wheel-drive units lead and grow fastest together because most truck-crane job sites, from construction lots to utility rights-of-way, involve unpaved or uneven ground that two-wheel-drive chassis handle poorly. As infrastructure and energy project activity increasingly reaches sites without finished road access, operators specify all-wheel-drive configurations more often than the standard chassis they might have chosen a decade earlier. All-Wheel Drive remains the largest line through 2034, so the axis changes in proportion, not in order.

North America Market Analysis
The 2nd-largest region covered — 3 points of share move elsewhere by 2034.
- Rank 2 of 5
- 2025 share 20%
- By 2034 17%
- Revenue $1.93B → $3.01B
20% of the global truck cranes market sits in North America in 2025, worth USD 1.93 billion with USD 3.01 billion projected for 2034. That makes it the second-largest region covered, in 2025 and again in 2034.
17.01% of global revenue sits here in 2034, below the 2025 level, while nothing contracts here; other regions simply grow faster, which shows up as relative weight, not as falling revenue.
Medium Truck Cranes leads here as it does globally, at 35.03% of 2025 revenue, and Extra-heavy Truck Cranes again grows fastest at 9.92%. North America is reported axis by axis and country by country in the full study.
United States

- In region 1 of 2
- Of region 70%
- Of global 14%
- Revenue $1.35B → $2.11B
The United States is the largest market within North America, generating USD 1.35 billion in 2025 and projected to reach USD 2.11 billion by 2034. 70% of the region in 2025 means the regional figures are, in practice, a view of this market with others attached. Against regional totals of USD 1.93 billion in 2025 and USD 3.01 billion in 2034, it is the country the full report breaks out in detail.
the United States buys along the same lines as the market globally; Medium Truck Cranes first at 35.03% of 2025 revenue and 31.98% in 2034, Extra-heavy Truck Cranes fastest at 9.92% on a share moving from 18.03% to 23%. Because the country carries 70% of North America, a movement in its own mix shows up in the regional totals instead of being averaged away by neighbouring markets. Per-type revenue for the United States appears on its own in the full report.
In the United States, truck cranes fall under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's construction standard covering cranes and derricks, which requires operators to be certified, equipment to be inspected before use, and load charts to be followed as issued by the manufacturer. Design and performance expectations draw on the American Society of Mechanical Engineers' consensus standard for mobile and locomotive cranes, which a manufacturer typically references to demonstrate conformity. Suppliers also navigate state-level requirements for crane operator licensing and periodic third-party inspection, since enforcement in this category is split between federal workplace safety rules and state permitting regimes. A supplier entering this market generally needs documented conformity to the ASME consensus standard alongside OSHA's operational requirements before a crane can be deployed on a job site.
In the United States the field is Altec, Terex Cranes, Manitex, Tadano, Grove, Liebherr, Zoomlion, XCMG, SANY, LiuGong, Demag, Konecranes, LOXA, XGMA and Sunward.. The commercially relevant division is 35.03% of 2025 revenue in Medium Truck Cranes, where the volume is, against 9.92% growth in Extra-heavy Truck Cranes, where share moves. Per-company positioning and share at country level are in the full report only.

- Revenue $1.74B → $2.83B
Europe holds 18.03% of the global truck cranes market in 2025, worth USD 1.74 billion rising to USD 2.83 billion in 2034. It is a mid-sized region on this axis, third by revenue throughout the period.
By 2034 the share stands at 15.99%, though revenue still rises throughout; the shift is in the region's weight against faster-growing ones, which is not the same as weakening demand.
Within the region the type split tracks the global one; 35.03% of 2025 revenue in Medium Truck Cranes, fastest growth of 9.92% in Extra-heavy Truck Cranes. The full report breaks Europe out along every axis and by country.
Germany
The largest market in Europe, growing 1.6×.
- In region 1 of 3
- Of region 40%
- Of global 7.3%
- Revenue $0.70B → $1.13B
The largest single market in Europe is Germany, at USD 0.7 billion in 2025 and USD 1.13 billion in 2034. Its 40% of base-year regional revenue leads the region, though enough sits elsewhere that Europe is not a proxy for it. The region itself runs USD 1.74 billion to USD 2.83 billion over the same period, and this is the market carrying the country-level detail in the full report.
Composition here matches the global split: the largest line is Medium Truck Cranes at 35.03% of 2025 revenue, easing to 31.98% by 2034, and the fastest is Extra-heavy Truck Cranes at 9.92%, from 18.03% to 23%. Because the country carries 40% of Europe, a movement in its own mix shows up in the regional totals instead of being averaged away by neighbouring markets. Germany carries its own type breakdown in the full report.
Germany treats truck cranes as machinery under the European Union's Machinery Regulation, which requires CE marking, a technical file, and a declaration of conformity before a unit can be placed on the market. Manufacturers typically demonstrate compliance against the harmonised European standard for mobile cranes, covering structural, stability, and control requirements specific to this equipment class. Once in service, the German Social Accident Insurance system, DGUV, oversees periodic statutory inspection of cranes by an authorised expert, and operators must hold recognised crane operator qualifications. A supplier's route to market runs through CE conformity assessment first, with DGUV's in-service inspection regime governing the equipment for as long as it remains in operation.
Altec, Terex Cranes, Manitex, Tadano, Grove, Liebherr, Zoomlion, XCMG, SANY, LiuGong, Demag, Konecranes, LOXA, XGMA and Sunward. are the suppliers covered in Germany. Medium Truck Cranes, at 35.03% of 2025 revenue, is where the volume sits, and Extra-heavy Truck Cranes, growing at 9.92%, is where position changes hands over the forecast period. Weighting toward Europe means competing for 18.03% of 2025 global revenue, a base of USD 1.74 billion moving to USD 2.83 billion across the forecast period.

- Revenue $2.23B → $4.48B
The largest single market in Asia Pacific is China, at USD 2.23 billion in 2025 and USD 4.48 billion in 2034. 55.06% of the region in the base year makes it the largest market here without making it the region. Against regional totals of USD 4.05 billion in 2025 and USD 8.14 billion in 2034, it is the country the full report breaks out in detail.
The type pattern in China is the global one: 35.03% of 2025 revenue in Medium Truck Cranes, 31.98% by 2034, against 9.92% growth in Extra-heavy Truck Cranes taking it from 18.03% to 23%. Its 55.06% weight in Asia Pacific means those movements carry straight into the regional totals. The full report reports China by type separately.
China regulates truck cranes as special equipment under the Special Equipment Safety Law, administered by the State Administration for Market Regulation, which requires a manufacturing licence, type approval, and registration before a crane can be sold or operated domestically. Design and fabrication must conform to national GB standards covering structural safety, load testing, and lifting mechanisms for mobile cranes. A supplier also needs its manufacturing facility inspected and licensed, not only the finished product, and each unit typically carries an official special-equipment certificate confirming it has passed acceptance testing. Import and export of this equipment class additionally falls under inspection and quarantine requirements administered separately from the domestic licensing route.
In China the field is Altec, Terex Cranes, Manitex, Tadano, Grove, Liebherr, Zoomlion, XCMG, SANY, LiuGong, Demag, Konecranes, LOXA, XGMA and Sunward.. The commercially relevant division is 35.03% of 2025 revenue in Medium Truck Cranes, where the volume is, against 9.92% growth in Extra-heavy Truck Cranes, where share moves. Weighting toward Asia Pacific means competing for 41.97% of 2025 global revenue, a base of USD 4.05 billion moving to USD 8.14 billion across the forecast period.

Latin America Market Analysis
The 5th-largest region covered — 1 point of share move elsewhere by 2034, while revenue still grows 1.6×.
- Rank 5 of 5
- 2025 share 8%
- By 2034 7%
- Revenue $0.77B → $1.24B
In Latin America, 7.98% of global revenue puts 2025 at USD 0.77 billion and reaches USD 1.24 billion by 2034. Among the five regions it ranks fifth by revenue in both years.
7.01% of global revenue sits here in 2034, below the 2025 level, a shift in share, not in direction: revenue climbs every year while the market's centre of gravity moves elsewhere.
Medium Truck Cranes leads here as it does globally, at 35.03% of 2025 revenue, and Extra-heavy Truck Cranes again grows fastest at 9.92%. Latin America is reported axis by axis and country by country in the full study.
Brazil
The largest market in Latin America, growing 1.6×.
- In region 1 of 2
- Of region 54.5%
- Of global 4.3%
- Revenue $0.42B → $0.68B
The largest single market in Latin America is Brazil, at USD 0.42 billion in 2025 and USD 0.68 billion in 2034. It accounts for 54.55% of regional revenue in the base year, the largest single share without dominating the region outright. The region itself runs USD 0.77 billion to USD 1.24 billion over the same period, and this is the market carrying the country-level detail in the full report.
Demand in Brazil follows the type mix reported at global level: Medium Truck Cranes is the largest line at 35.03% of 2025 revenue, moving to 31.98% by 2034, while Extra-heavy Truck Cranes grows fastest at 9.92% and takes its share from 18.03% to 23%. With 54.55% of Latin America concentrated here, a change in this country's mix is visible in the regional figures instead of being diluted by its neighbours. Brazil carries its own type breakdown in the full report.
Truck cranes operating in Brazil are governed primarily by the Ministry of Labour and Employment's regulatory standard on machinery and equipment safety, which sets requirements covering guarding, emergency stops, and documented risk assessment, alongside its companion standard on the movement, storage, and handling of materials. Suppliers must secure equipment conformity assessment through Brazil's national metrology and standardisation body, INMETRO, before a crane can be marketed domestically, and operators are required to complete recognised training programmes specific to mobile lifting equipment. Compliance documentation, including risk assessments and maintenance records, must be kept on file and made available to labour inspectors on request. Enforcement sits with regional labour inspectorates rather than a single national authority.
Altec, Terex Cranes, Manitex, Tadano, Grove, Liebherr, Zoomlion, XCMG, SANY, LiuGong, Demag, Konecranes, LOXA, XGMA and Sunward. are the suppliers covered in Brazil. Medium Truck Cranes, at 35.03% of 2025 revenue, is where the volume sits, and Extra-heavy Truck Cranes, growing at 9.92%, is where position changes hands over the forecast period. Weighting toward Latin America means competing for 7.98% of 2025 global revenue, a base of USD 0.77 billion moving to USD 1.24 billion across the forecast period.
Mexico

Segment composition follows the global pattern: Medium Truck Cranes largest at 35.03% of 2025 revenue, Extra-heavy Truck Cranes fastest at 9.92%. Revenue for Middle East and Africa is broken out by every segmentation axis and by country in the full report.
Saudi Arabia
The largest market in Middle East and Africa, growing 2.1×.
- In region 1 of 2
- Of region 55.2%
- Of global 6.6%
- Revenue $0.64B → $1.36B
The largest single market in Middle East and Africa is Saudi Arabia, at USD 0.64 billion in 2025 and USD 1.36 billion in 2034. Its 55.17% of base-year regional revenue leads the region, though enough sits elsewhere that Middle East and Africa is not a proxy for it. Set against USD 1.16 billion and USD 2.48 billion for the region, it is why this market, and not a smaller one, is the one reported in full.
Demand in Saudi Arabia follows the type mix reported at global level: Medium Truck Cranes is the largest line at 35.03% of 2025 revenue, moving to 31.98% by 2034, while Extra-heavy Truck Cranes grows fastest at 9.92% and takes its share from 18.03% to 23%. Its 55.17% weight in Middle East and Africa means those movements carry straight into the regional totals. Revenue by type for Saudi Arabia is reported separately in the full report.
In Saudi Arabia, truck cranes fall under the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization's technical regulations for lifting equipment, which require conformity assessment and the Gulf conformity mark before a unit can be sold in the kingdom. Civil Defense authorities separately review lifting equipment used on construction and industrial sites, with requirements covering inspection intervals, operator competency, and safe working load documentation. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development sets workplace safety obligations that apply once a crane is in service, including operator certification and site-level risk controls. A supplier entering this market needs both product-level conformity marking and ongoing compliance with occupational safety inspection to keep equipment operating legally on site.
In Saudi Arabia the field is Altec, Terex Cranes, Manitex, Tadano, Grove, Liebherr, Zoomlion, XCMG, SANY, LiuGong, Demag, Konecranes, LOXA, XGMA and Sunward.. The commercially relevant division is 35.03% of 2025 revenue in Medium Truck Cranes, where the volume is, against 9.92% growth in Extra-heavy Truck Cranes, where share moves. A supplier weighted toward Middle East and Africa is competing over a base of USD 1.16 billion in 2025 reaching USD 2.48 billion by 2034, 12.02% of global revenue at the start of that period.
UAE
2nd-largest in Middle East and Africa, growing 2.2×.
- In region 2 of 2

Competitive Landscape
Position on the Type Axis Decides Competitive Standing
The suppliers covered are: Altec, Terex Cranes, Manitex, Tadano, Grove, Liebherr, Zoomlion, XCMG, SANY, LiuGong, Demag, Konecranes, LOXA, XGMA and Sunward..
The competitive line that matters is the type one, not the geographic one. Medium Truck Cranes is 35.03% of 2025 revenue at USD 3.38 billion and still 31.98% in 2034, so it is where the volume sits and where an incumbent's position is hardest to move. Movement is concentrated in Extra-heavy Truck Cranes; 9.92% growth, against 4.33% at the other end of the axis in Light Truck Cranes. Holding the first and taking the second are separate capabilities, which is why a market of USD 9.65 billion supports as many suppliers as it does.
Scale in manufacturing and breadth across capacity classes separate the leading suppliers: firms able to homologate chassis and superstructure across many capacity bands capture more tenders than narrow specialists. Distribution and service network reach matters as much as the machine itself, since crane owners weigh parts availability and repair turnaround when selecting a supplier for equipment that stays in service for a decade or more. Chinese manufacturers have expanded share by pricing aggressively across light and medium capacity classes and building dealer networks in emerging markets, while established European and Japanese brands compete on component durability, resale value and relationships with rental fleets and large contractors in mature markets.
Geographic reach is the other axis of competition. Asia Pacific alone accounts for 41.97% of 2025 revenue, so a supplier absent there is absent from the largest part of the market whatever its position elsewhere; North America adds a further 20%.

Research approach
A market size is a claim about the world, and a claim is only as good as the route to it. Every study is built upward from units and prices — what is actually produced, sold or performed, at what it actually changes hands for — rather than from a headline figure divided downwards. Disclosed company revenue is then used to check that build, not to produce it.
The market was built upward from unit shipments and realized prices in each capacity class (light, medium, heavy and extra-heavy truck cranes), using production and export volumes reported against HS code 8426.41 and construction-equipment association shipment data, multiplied by average selling prices benchmarked per capacity band. That unit times price build was then checked against disclosed truck-crane revenue and the crane-equipment segments of diversified manufacturers. Where the two diverged, the unit volume or price assumption behind the bottom-up build was corrected, not averaged against the disclosed figure, since shipment counts and price benchmarks are the more granular and verifiable inputs for a market this concentrated in a small number of capacity classes.
The four stages
The same sequence runs behind every published study, whatever the industry. The order matters as much as the steps: the segment axes are fixed before any number is collected, so the model is never reshaped to fit whatever data happens to turn up.
What the build rests on, and what checks it
The two are not interchangeable. The left column produces the number; the right column tests it. When the check disagrees with the build, the answer is to find which bottom-up assumption is wrong — a unit count, a price, a take-up rate — not to split the difference between them.
- Volume actually transacted — units produced, installed, dispensed or procedures performed, counted at the level each is genuinely recorded
- Realised pricing by tier and channel, rather than one blended average applied across the whole market
- Take-up and frequency: how much of the addressable base buys, and how often it repeats
- Disclosed revenue of the companies serving the market, where filings separate it far enough to be usable
- Buyer-side spending totals — capital budgets, procurement lines, or the output of the end market the product is bought against
- Trade and customs flows, where the product crosses borders in a separately recorded form
Data sources
Published data establishes what happened. Only the people transacting in a market can say why, and what is about to change — so the two are collected separately and weighted differently.
- Commercial and product leadership at the companies that supply the market
- Procurement and specification leads at the organisations that buy it
- Distributors, integrators and channel partners, where the market is served indirectly
- Regulatory and standards specialists, where approval governs what can be sold at all
- Company filings, annual reports and investor disclosure
- Government statistics, customs records and regulatory registers
- Trade association output and standards-body publications
- Technical and peer-reviewed literature, where the market rests on a clinical or engineering claim
Primary interviews target commercial and product-planning executives at truck-crane manufacturers, procurement and fleet managers at construction and crane-rental companies, and dealer or distributor principals who see order patterns across capacity classes before they reach headline shipment data. Regulatory contacts covering on-road homologation and lifting-equipment certification are included where a capacity class faces a distinct approval path. Sampling weights China, the United States, Germany and India most heavily, reflecting where truck-crane manufacturing and end-use construction and infrastructure activity are most concentrated, with additional coverage in the Middle East to capture demand tied to large infrastructure and energy projects.
Desk research draws on HS code 8426.41 trade and customs data for cross-border shipment volumes, national construction-equipment association output statistics from bodies including the China Construction Machinery Association and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, public financial filings from listed crane manufacturers, and infrastructure and capital-project pipelines published by transport and public-works ministries. Port-authority capacity expansion plans and utility and grid-operator capital programs are used to size demand tied to the ports and logistics and utilities end-use segments specifically. On-road vehicle registration and homologation records supplement shipment data where customs classifications group truck cranes with other mounted equipment.
Desk research runs across proprietary research databases including Factiva, OneSource and Hoovers alongside the public sources above. Modelling and statistical validation are run in SAS and SPSS.
Forecasting
The forecast is not a growth rate applied to a base year. It is built from the drivers that are expected to change, each one stated so a reader can disagree with it.
The forecast is built from capacity-class-level demand curves tied to infrastructure capital spending cycles, the pace of grid and renewable-energy buildout that requires extra-heavy lift capacity, and replacement demand from the installed fleet's own age profile. Pricing is assumed to track steel input costs with a lag rather than move independently. The 2020-2021 shipment contraction is treated as a cyclical trough, not a new baseline, so the forecast does not extrapolate that period's growth rate forward. For the forecast to hold, public infrastructure disbursement needs to continue at a pace consistent with current capital budgets, and financing costs for fleet operators need to not tighten materially beyond current levels.
Triangulation and validation
No figure enters a report on the strength of one source. Where the two sizing routes disagree the difference is not averaged away — the assumption causing it is isolated, tested against a third independent measure, and either corrected or carried forward as a stated limitation. Historical years are back-tested against the growth actually recorded before any forecast is allowed to run forward from them.
Outputs were back-tested against recorded shipment and revenue growth for 2021 through 2024 to confirm the model reproduces the post-2020 recovery pattern before being extended into the forecast. Segment-level share shifts, including the gradual move toward extra-heavy and all-wheel-drive configurations, were reviewed against manufacturer product-launch and order-book commentary rather than accepted from the trend line alone. Sensitivities were run on steel input costs, infrastructure disbursement timing and financing rate assumptions, since these are the variables most likely to move actual outcomes away from the base case in either direction.
Confidence and limitations
Where an estimate is firm and where it is not is stated rather than left to be inferred from the precision of the number.
Confidence is firmest in the medium and heavy capacity classes and in the construction end-use segment, where shipment and pricing data are most complete and cross-check cleanly against manufacturer disclosures. It is thinner for the extra-heavy class and for utilities and mining end-use demand, where orders are lumpier and tied to a smaller number of large projects that can shift timing without warning. A sustained steel-price spike or a delay in publicly funded infrastructure programs are the structural risks most likely to force a revision of the forecast beyond the range already built into the bear scenario.
