Methodology

How the estimates were built: data sources, modelling approach and validation steps.

Research approach

A market size is a claim about the world, and a claim is only as good as the route to it. Every study is built upward from units and prices — what is actually produced, sold or performed, at what it actually changes hands for — rather than from a headline figure divided downwards. Disclosed company revenue is then used to check that build, not to produce it.

Market size estimation, this report

Sizing for this market starts from unit volumes: procedure counts for aesthetic and regenerative treatments delivered through clinics and medspas, prescription and over-the-counter dosage units for senolytic and NAD+-precursor compounds, and test volumes for biomarker and epigenetic-age panels, each carried at its realised average selling price by geography. The resulting revenue build is checked against disclosed revenue from the therapy, nutraceutical and diagnostics companies named in the competitive landscape, segment by segment. Where the two diverge, the correction is made to the bottom-up assumption, most often an average price or a procedure-volume estimate for a specific country; the disclosed company figures are not adjusted, and the two views are not averaged together.

The four stages

The same sequence runs behind every published study, whatever the industry. The order matters as much as the steps: the segment axes are fixed before any number is collected, so the model is never reshaped to fit whatever data happens to turn up.

What the build rests on, and what checks it

The two are not interchangeable. The left column produces the number; the right column tests it. When the check disagrees with the build, the answer is to find which bottom-up assumption is wrong — a unit count, a price, a take-up rate — not to split the difference between them.

The bottom-up build rests on
  • Volume actually transacted — units produced, installed, dispensed or procedures performed, counted at the level each is genuinely recorded
  • Realised pricing by tier and channel, rather than one blended average applied across the whole market
  • Take-up and frequency: how much of the addressable base buys, and how often it repeats
The build is checked against
  • Disclosed revenue of the companies serving the market, where filings separate it far enough to be usable
  • Buyer-side spending totals — capital budgets, procurement lines, or the output of the end market the product is bought against
  • Trade and customs flows, where the product crosses borders in a separately recorded form

Data sources

Published data establishes what happened. Only the people transacting in a market can say why, and what is about to change — so the two are collected separately and weighted differently.

Primary — who is interviewed
  • Commercial and product leadership at the companies that supply the market
  • Procurement and specification leads at the organisations that buy it
  • Distributors, integrators and channel partners, where the market is served indirectly
  • Regulatory and standards specialists, where approval governs what can be sold at all
Secondary — what is read
  • Company filings, annual reports and investor disclosure
  • Government statistics, customs records and regulatory registers
  • Trade association output and standards-body publications
  • Technical and peer-reviewed literature, where the market rests on a clinical or engineering claim
Primary research design, this report

Primary research for this market targets commercial and medical-affairs leads at therapy and nutraceutical manufacturers, procurement and purchasing managers at medspa and wellness-clinic groups, pharmacy and distribution channel managers, and regulatory affairs staff who track clearance timelines for novel senolytic and regenerative compounds. Sampling weights the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Japan and South Korea, the geographies that together account for most of the disclosed clinical and commercial activity in this category, while still including calls into Latin America and the Middle East to capture emerging medical-tourism and wellness-hub demand. Interview themes cover pricing realised at point of sale, channel mix shifts and the pace of regulatory clearance rather than open-ended market sentiment.

Secondary sources, this report

Desk research draws on clearance and registration filings tracked through national medicines regulators for senolytic, peptide and NAD+-precursor compounds, the dietary-supplement ingredient registers that cover nutraceutical formulations sold across major markets, and customs trade-code data for finished nutraceutical and diagnostic-kit shipments. Company-level revenue and segment disclosures come from the annual filings of the publicly listed suppliers named in the competitive landscape, cross-checked against wellness-industry trade-body benchmarks published for the medspa and aesthetic-clinic channel. Biomarker and epigenetic-age testing volumes are checked against laboratory-accreditation registers in the geographies where that category has meaningful clinical uptake.

Desk research runs across proprietary research databases including Factiva, OneSource and Hoovers alongside the public sources above. Modelling and statistical validation are run in SAS and SPSS.

Forecasting

The forecast is not a growth rate applied to a base year. It is built from the drivers that are expected to change, each one stated so a reader can disagree with it.

Forecast approach, this report

The forecast carries forward the demand shift already visible in the historical build: share moving from nutraceuticals and aesthetic procedures toward senolytic pharmaceuticals and biomarker diagnostics as clinical evidence accumulates and clearance pathways open. Pricing is held to a gradual real-term decline in diagnostics and a slower decline in prescription therapies as competition enters, offset by rising procedure volumes in the aesthetic and regenerative segments. The 2020-2021 period is normalised for the wellness-spending anomaly recorded during that stretch rather than extrapolated forward. For the forecast to hold, clearance timelines for the compounds already in late-stage pipelines need to land within the ranges currently disclosed by their developers, and reimbursement policy needs to stay near where it is today.

Triangulation and validation

No figure enters a report on the strength of one source. Where the two sizing routes disagree the difference is not averaged away — the assumption causing it is isolated, tested against a third independent measure, and either corrected or carried forward as a stated limitation. Historical years are back-tested against the growth actually recorded before any forecast is allowed to run forward from them.

Validation, this report

Outputs were back-tested against the recorded 2020-2024 growth rate for each segment and region to confirm the forecast does not imply an unexplained break from historical trend. Segment-share shifts, particularly the move toward senolytic pharmaceuticals and biomarker diagnostics, were reviewed against the primary interviews described above instead of simply carrying the trend forward. Sensitivities were run on the two inputs the forecast is most exposed to: the pace of regulatory clearance for compounds currently in late-stage development, and the realised price decline in the diagnostics segment as competing panels enter. Regional totals were checked to confirm they reconcile to the global figure in every year of the study period.

Confidence and limitations

Where an estimate is firm and where it is not is stated rather than left to be inferred from the precision of the number.

Confidence framing, this report

Confidence is firmest in the nutraceutical and aesthetic-procedure segments, where disclosed company revenue and clinic-level procedure data give a direct read on realised volume and pricing. It is weaker in the senolytic pharmaceutical and biomarker-diagnostics segments, where most of the named developers are still privately held or early in commercialisation and disclosure is thin, so those figures lean more on primary interviews and adjacent-market analogues. The clearest risk to this estimate is a faster or slower regulatory clearance pace than currently disclosed by developers in late-stage pipelines, which would shift segment share materially without changing the market's overall size.
