Market Analysis & Outlook
Keratin tablets are oral dietary supplements formulated with hydrolyzed keratin protein, typically combined with biotin, collagen or other micronutrients, marketed for hair strength, skin elasticity and nail health. They are sold as standard, chewable or effervescent tablets through pharmacy, mass retail and online channels to adult consumers seeking a beauty-from-within routine, not a medical treatment for hair or skin conditions.
The global keratin tablets market is valued at USD 312.4 million in 2025 and is set to reach USD 576 million by 2034, a compound annual growth rate of 6.92% across the 2026-2034 forecast period. The study tracks the market across USD 208 million in 2020, USD 289 million in 2024, USD 337.5 million in 2026 and USD 448.3 million in 2030.
On the type axis, growth rates run from 5.82% for Alpha-keratin up to 8.94% for Beta-keratin. Alpha-keratin carries the volume: USD 212.43 million and 68% of revenue in 2025, USD 357.12 million and 62% in 2034. The lines gaining share are Beta-keratin. Alpha-keratin lose share without losing revenue.
The application split puts Pharmacy first, at USD 118.71 million and 38% of revenue in 2025, rising to USD 184.32 million and 32% in 2034. Online Store grows faster at 10.15% against 4.87%, moving from 35% of revenue to 46% by 2034. It cuts the same total as the type axis from a different commercial angle, so revenue does not add across the two.
Geographically, 42% of 2025 revenue sits in North America (USD 131.21 million rising to USD 218.88 million) ahead of Europe at 24% and USD 74.98 million. Middle East and Africa is smallest, at 5%. Share shifts toward Asia Pacific, Latin America and Middle East and Africa over the forecast period, so the regional split repays a close reading.
The 2025 total is triangulated from published sources and category proxies, with no independently sourced count behind it. Segment, regional and country splits are estimated on the same basis, which bounds the precision of the figures above. Coverage runs to five regions, two type lines and five segmentation axes across a fifteen-year window.

Key Takeaways
- Revenue grows from USD 312.4 million in 2025 to USD 576 million in 2034, a compound annual rate of 6.92%, having reached USD 289 million in 2024 from USD 208 million in 2020.
- The largest line by type is Alpha-keratin, worth USD 212.43 million and 68% of revenue in 2025, rising to USD 357.12 million and 62% by 2034.
- Fastest growth on the type axis belongs to Beta-keratin: 8.94% a year, USD 99.97 million to USD 218.88 million, and a share moving from 32% to 38%.
- Against a base case of USD 576 million in 2034, the study also reports a bear case at USD 497.5 million and a bull case at USD 657 million, with the assumptions behind each set out separately.
- North America holds 42% of global revenue in 2025 at USD 131.21 million, the largest of the five regions tracked, and reaches USD 218.88 million by 2034.
- 78% of North America's base-year revenue comes from the United States alone: USD 102.34 million in 2025, rising to USD 168.54 million by 2034, which is why it is that region's worked example.
- The study covers 2020 through 2034 with 2025 as the base year, reporting five regions and five segmentation axes separately, with revenue, share and a growth rate for every line in each year.
Market Trends
Revenue Share, By By Type
Base year 2025Alpha-keratin leads with 68.0% of by type segment revenue.
Share of by type segment revenue, most recent base year.
Three things move over 2026-2034, and they are worth separating: the type mix, the regional balance, and the 6.92% compounding underneath both.
Not one of them points downward. Growth is everywhere in absolute terms, and the interest is entirely in where it lands.
Composition shifts on the type axis. Between 2026 and 2034, 8.94% growth in Beta-keratin against 5.82% in Alpha-keratin pulls the type mix apart. Over the forecast period that moves Beta-keratin from 32% of revenue to 38%, and Alpha-keratin from 68% to 62%. The revenue figures behind that are USD 99.97 million to USD 218.88 million and USD 212.43 million to USD 357.12 million. Both expand; where a supplier sits on the axis still decides whether it tracks the market.
Regional weight shifts toward Asia Pacific, Latin America and Middle East and Africa. Asia Pacific moves from 22% of revenue in 2025 to 27% in 2034, worth USD 68.73 million rising to USD 155.52 million; Latin America moves from 7% of revenue in 2025 to 7.5% in 2034, worth USD 21.87 million rising to USD 43.2 million; Middle East and Africa moves from 5% of revenue in 2025 to 5.5% in 2034, worth USD 15.62 million rising to USD 31.68 million. The offsetting side is North America at 42% moving to 38%, Europe at 24% moving to 22%, none of which contracts. The practical consequence is that regional weighting decides whether a participant matches the market rate or trails it, regardless of how its own revenue reads.
The series never breaks trajectory. Reading the series: USD 208 million in 2020, USD 289 million in 2024, USD 312.4 million in 2025, USD 337.5 million in 2026, USD 448.3 million in 2030 and USD 576 million in 2034. The forecast rate of 6.92% sits against 8.47% over the historical period, so the projection extends an observed trend instead of proposing a new one. The risk in the number sits in the mix assumptions, not in whether the market grows at all, which is where the type and regional sections come in.
Market Growth Factors
Growth is concentrated in Beta-keratin
Market Drivers
3- 01Growth is concentrated in Beta-keratin
The fastest line on the type axis is Beta-keratin, at 8.94% against the market's 6.92%, taking USD 99.97 million to USD 218.88 million and 32% of revenue to 38%. The market's overall 6.92% depends on that rate holding: at the 5.82% recorded by Alpha-keratin, the same revenue base would compound to a materially smaller 2034 total. That makes position on the type axis a growth decision, not a product one.
- 02The two largest regions hold most of the base
42% of 2025 revenue (USD 131.21 million) is generated in North America, reaching USD 218.88 million by 2034 at an unchanged 38%. Behind it, Europe holds 24%; USD 74.98 million rising to USD 126.72 million. Between them they hold most of the base and most of the revenue added over the period, so equal-weighting the regions in a plan misstates where the growth is.
- 03A demonstrated trajectory, not a projected turnaround
The historical period compounded at 8.47%; USD 208 million in 2020, USD 289 million in 2024 and USD 312.4 million in 2025. From there the forecast carries 6.92% through to USD 576 million in 2034. Because the growth is already in the record and not only in the projection, the rate is held flat across the forecast instead of ramped, and the risk in the number sits in the mix assumptions, not in whether the market grows at all.

| 2 | Price competition from lower-cost generic and private-label alternatives | Medium | −18.4 | Medium | High | High |

Drivers contribute 310 Million and restraints remove 46.4 Million, a net 263.6 Million, which is the revenue the market adds between the base year and 2034. Contributions are CDI estimates, apportioned so that they reconcile with the forecast rather than being read from it.
Three sources account for the growth to 2034: 6.92% compounding across the base, share moving toward the faster type lines, and above-market expansion in the leading regions.
Restraining Factors
Downside case: USD 497.5 million by 2034, against USD 576 million in the base case
Market Restraints
2- 01Downside case: USD 497.5 million by 2034, against USD 576 million in the base case
Where the forecast could miss: the bear case assumes tighter regulatory scrutiny of hair, skin and nail health claims and slower consumer adoption as private-label alternatives compress branded pricing. That path reaches USD 497.5 million by 2034 instead of USD 576 million, off an unchanged USD 312.4 million in 2025.
- 02The largest line is not the fastest
Alpha-keratin carries 68% of 2025 revenue at USD 212.43 million but compounds at 5.82% against 6.92% for the market, taking its share to 62% by 2034 even as revenue rises to USD 357.12 million. Because it carries that much of the base, its pace holds the blended rate down more than any faster line lifts it.
Market Opportunities
Upside case: USD 657 million by 2034
Market Opportunities
2- 01Upside case: USD 657 million by 2034
What would beat the forecast: the bull case assumes faster-than-expected growth in online and subscription-based purchasing alongside broader retail distribution of combination keratin-biotin-collagen formulations. That case reaches USD 657 million in 2034 against USD 576 million, and it is worth testing against a reader's own read of the market.
- 02Beta-keratin share moves from 32% to 38%
Beta-keratin grows at 8.94% against 6.92% for the market, adding revenue from USD 99.97 million in 2025 to USD 218.88 million in 2034 and taking its share from 32% to 38%. It is the place on this axis where share changes hands at scale, so it is where an entrant can take position without displacing the incumbent in Alpha-keratin.
Market Challenges
The total depends on a single line
Market Challenges
2- 01The total depends on a single line
USD 212.43 million of 2025 revenue sits in Alpha-keratin, 68% of the total, and it is still 62% at USD 357.12 million nine years later. A market leaning this heavily on one type line concentrates its exposure there, and a shift in demand for that line moves the total more than any other single change on the axis.
- 02The United States is 78% of North America
North America is worth USD 131.21 million in 2025 and USD 102.34 million of that is the United States; 78% of the region, reaching USD 168.54 million in 2034. A regional number that depends this heavily on one country carries that country's specific conditions inside it, which a reader treating the region as diversified would miss.
Segmentation Analysis
5 axesThe market is divided by type and by application, formulation, end use and dosage form; five axes in all. They are alternative readings of one revenue pool, not parts that sum to it.
There are two lines on the type axis, and all of them grow in revenue between 2025 and 2034. What separates them is share: one gains it, the other gives it up.

| Beta-keratin | $99.97M | 32% | $219M | 38%+6 | 8.9% |
Alpha-keratin, sourced primarily from wool and human hair, leads because its longer processing history gives formulators established extraction methods and a track record of consistent bioavailability that brand marketers rely on for label claims. Beta-keratin, drawn mainly from feather byproducts, is growing faster as lower input costs and advances in hydrolyzation let suppliers offer comparable protein quality at a price point that appeals to value-focused and private-label brands. Beta-keratin outgrows every other line on this axis, narrowing the gap to Alpha-keratin. Alpha-keratin remains the largest line through 2034, so the axis changes in proportion, not in order. Every year of the series is priced on this axis, making it the reference cut for the rest of the report.

Pharmacy remains the largest channel because consumers still associate keratin supplementation with a health-oriented purchase best made alongside pharmacist-stocked vitamins, not in a general grocery aisle. Online store sales are growing fastest as subscription models and direct-to-consumer brands build routine repeat purchases that a physical shelf cannot match as easily. By 2034 the largest line is Online Store and no longer Pharmacy, the one axis here where the order actually changes.

| Keratin + Collagen Complex | $87.47M | 28% | $196M | 34%+6 | 9.2% |
Keratin-plus-biotin formulations lead because biotin's long-standing association with hair and nail health gives combination products an easier consumer story than a single-ingredient tablet. Keratin-plus-collagen blends are growing fastest as skin-focused beauty supplement trends spill over into the hair category, letting brands position one tablet as a broader anti-aging routine instead of a narrow hair-only product. By 2034 Keratin + Biotin Complex is still ahead, making this a shift in weight, not a change of leader.

| Hair-Skin-Nail Combined | $93.72M | 30% | $207M | 36%+6 | 9.1% |
Hair health remains the largest use case because keratin's original supplement positioning was built around hair strength and shine, and that association still drives first-time purchase decisions. Combined hair-skin-nail formulas are growing fastest as brands consolidate multiple benefit claims into a single tablet, which suits a consumer who wants one purchase to cover an entire beauty-from-within routine instead of separate products. Hair Health remains the largest line through 2034, so the axis changes in proportion, not in order.

| Effervescent Tablets | $37.49M | 12% | $92.16M | 16%+4 | 10.3% |
Standard tablets remain the largest format because they are the least expensive to manufacture and the format most consumers already associate with a daily supplement habit. Effervescent tablets are growing fastest as brands use the format's faster absorption story and more engaging consumption experience to differentiate in a crowded online marketplace where a plain tablet is harder to market. The order does not change: Standard Tablets is still largest in 2034, and what moves is how much it holds.

The United States is the largest market within North America, generating USD 102.34 million in 2025 and projected to reach USD 168.54 million by 2034. At 78% of regional revenue in the base year it is not one market among several, the region's trajectory is largely this country's trajectory. Set against USD 131.21 million and USD 218.88 million for the region, it is why this market, and not a smaller one, is the one reported in full.
The type pattern in the United States is the global one: 68% of 2025 revenue in Alpha-keratin, 62% by 2034, against 8.94% growth in Beta-keratin taking it from 32% to 38%. Its 78% weight in North America means those movements carry straight into the regional totals. Revenue by type for the United States is reported separately in the full report.
The Food and Drug Administration regulates keratin tablets as a dietary supplement under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, which classifies the product as food, not a drug. Manufacturers must comply with dietary supplement current good manufacturing practice requirements covering identity, purity, and composition testing. Labeling must carry a Supplement Facts panel, correctly identify keratin as the ingredient and its source, and avoid disease claims; structure-function claims are permitted only with the standard disclaimer that the FDA has not evaluated the statement. No premarket approval is required unless the formulation introduces a new dietary ingredient, in which case a safety notification must be filed before marketing.
In the United States the field is Garden of Life, Kerotin, Nature's Truth, Nature's Bounty and Nature Made. Volume sits in Alpha-keratin at 68% of 2025 revenue; movement sits in Beta-keratin at 8.94% growth. The largest market in Europe, growing 1.6×.
- In region 1 of 3
- Of region 27%

USD 20.24 million of Europe's 2025 revenue is generated in Germany, the region's largest market, reaching USD 32.95 million by 2034. It accounts for 27% of regional revenue in the base year, the largest single share without dominating the region outright. The region itself runs USD 74.98 million to USD 126.72 million over the same period, and this is the market carrying the country-level detail in the full report.
Germany buys along the same lines as the market globally; Alpha-keratin first at 68% of 2025 revenue and 62% in 2034, Beta-keratin fastest at 8.94% on a share moving from 32% to 38%. Its 27% weight in Europe means those movements carry straight into the regional totals. The full report reports Germany by type separately.
In Germany, keratin tablets fall under the European Union's food supplement regime, enforced domestically through the Bundesamt für Verbraucherschutz und Lebensmittelsicherheit and the food surveillance authorities of the individual federal states. The product must be notified to the competent authority before sale and must meet the compositional and labelling standards set out in the Food Supplements Directive as transposed into German law. Any statement made about keratin's effect on hair or nails must be an authorised health claim under the EU Health Claims Regulation; unauthorised or implied claims are not permitted. Packaging must display the supplement's ingredient composition, intended use, and a warning against exceeding the recommended intake, printed in German.
Garden of Life, Kerotin, Nature's Truth, Nature's Bounty and Nature Made are the suppliers covered in Germany. The commercially relevant division is 68% of 2025 revenue in Alpha-keratin, where the volume is, against 8.94% growth in Beta-keratin, where share moves. That makes Europe a 24% share of 2025 global revenue, USD 74.98 million rising to USD 126.72 million, for any supplier deciding where to concentrate.

Asia Pacific Market Analysis
The 3rd-largest region covered, and the one gaining the most — it picks up 5 points of share by 2034, while revenue still grows 2.3×.
- Rank 3 of 5
- 2025 share 22%
- By 2034 27%
- Revenue $68.73M → $156M
USD 68.73 million of 2025 revenue is generated in Asia Pacific, 22% of the global keratin tablets market rising to USD 155.52 million in 2034. That makes it the third-largest region covered, in 2025 and again in 2034.
By 2034 the share has moved up to 27%, at a pace above the 6.92% global rate, so this region warrants separate treatment and should not be scaled off the total.
Within the region the type split tracks the global one; 68% of 2025 revenue in Alpha-keratin, fastest growth of 8.94% in Beta-keratin. The full report breaks Asia Pacific out along every axis and by country.
China
The largest market in Asia Pacific, growing 2.3×.
- In region 1 of 3
- Of region 34%
- Of global 7.5%
- Revenue $23.37M → $54.43M
USD 23.37 million of Asia Pacific's 2025 revenue is generated in China, the region's largest market, reaching USD 54.43 million by 2034. At 34% of the region in 2025 it leads, but a majority of Asia Pacific's revenue is generated in other markets. Against regional totals of USD 68.73 million in 2025 and USD 155.52 million in 2034, it is the country the full report breaks out in detail.
China buys along the same lines as the market globally; Alpha-keratin first at 68% of 2025 revenue and 62% in 2034, Beta-keratin fastest at 8.94% on a share moving from 32% to 38%. Because the country carries 34% of Asia Pacific, a movement in its own mix shows up in the regional totals instead of being averaged away by neighbouring markets. Revenue by type for China is reported separately in the full report.
In China, keratin tablets marketed with a stated functional benefit are treated as health food under the framework administered by the National Medical Products Administration, successor to the earlier health food approval system. Depending on the ingredient and the claim made, a supplier must either register the product and submit safety and efficacy evidence for review, or file a simplified notification for ingredients already recognised as permitted. Approved products carry the designated health food mark on their packaging alongside mandatory Chinese-language labelling stating composition, function claim, and consumption guidance. Products without an approved functional claim may instead be sold as an ordinary food, provided no health or therapeutic benefit is stated on the label or in marketing.
The suppliers tracked in this study (Garden of Life, Kerotin, Nature's Truth, Nature's Bounty and Nature Made) compete in China across the type lines above. Two different problems sit on the same axis: holding Alpha-keratin at 68% of 2025 revenue, and taking Beta-keratin while it grows at 8.94%. Weighting toward Asia Pacific means competing for 22% of 2025 global revenue, a base of USD 68.73 million moving to USD 155.52 million across the forecast period.

Latin America Market Analysis
The 4th-largest region covered — it picks up 0.5 points of share by 2034, while revenue still grows 2.0×.
- Rank 4 of 5
- 2025 share 7%
- By 2034 7.5%
- Revenue $21.87M → $43.20M
USD 21.87 million of 2025 revenue is generated in Latin America, 7% of the global keratin tablets market with USD 43.2 million projected for 2034. By revenue it sits fourth across the study, and the ranking does not change between 2025 and 2034.
By 2034 the share has moved up to 7.5%, so the region grows faster than the market's 6.92% and takes a larger part of the revenue added by 2034 than its 2025 weight implies.
The type mix reported at global level applies here, with Alpha-keratin the largest line at 68% of 2025 revenue and Beta-keratin the fastest-growing at 8.94%. Latin America is reported axis by axis and country by country in the full study.
Brazil
The largest market in Latin America, growing 2.0×.
- In region 1 of 2
- Of region 52%
- Of global 3.6%
- Revenue $11.37M → $22.46M
The largest single market in Latin America is Brazil, at USD 11.37 million in 2025 and USD 22.46 million in 2034. At 52% of the region in 2025 it leads, but a majority of Latin America's revenue is generated in other markets. The region itself runs USD 21.87 million to USD 43.2 million over the same period, and this is the market carrying the country-level detail in the full report.
Brazil buys along the same lines as the market globally; Alpha-keratin first at 68% of 2025 revenue and 62% in 2034, Beta-keratin fastest at 8.94% on a share moving from 32% to 38%. Its 52% weight in Latin America means those movements carry straight into the regional totals. Per-type revenue for Brazil appears on its own in the full report.
In Brazil, keratin tablets are regulated by the Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária as a food supplement under its rules governing suplementos alimentares. Suppliers must notify the product to Anvisa before marketing, demonstrating that the formulation and any nutrient or ingredient levels conform to the agency's technical standards for the category. Labelling must be in Portuguese, identify keratin and its source, state the recommended daily intake, and avoid any claim that the product treats, cures, or prevents disease, since such claims fall outside the supplement regime and would require registration as a medicine. Health claims regarding hair or nail benefit must be consistent with those the agency recognises for the category.
In Brazil the field is Garden of Life, Kerotin, Nature's Truth, Nature's Bounty and Nature Made. Alpha-keratin, at 68% of 2025 revenue, is where the volume sits, and Beta-keratin, growing at 8.94%, is where position changes hands over the forecast period. That makes Latin America a 7% share of 2025 global revenue, USD 21.87 million rising to USD 43.2 million, for any supplier deciding where to concentrate.
Mexico
2nd-largest in Latin America, growing 2.0×.
- In region 2 of 2
- Of region 28%
- Of global 2%
- Revenue $6.12M → $12.10M
1.96% of global revenue is generated in Mexico; USD 6.12 million in 2025, reaching USD 12.1 million in 2034, and 28% of Latin America.
Middle East and Africa Market Analysis
The 5th-largest region covered — it picks up 0.5 points of share by 2034, while revenue still grows 2.0×.
- Rank 5 of 5
- 2025 share 5%
- By 2034 5.5%
- Revenue $15.62M → $31.68M
5% of the global keratin tablets market sits in Middle East and Africa in 2025, worth USD 15.62 million with USD 31.68 million projected for 2034. That makes it the fifth-largest region covered, in 2025 and again in 2034.
By 2034 the share has moved up to 5.5%, at a pace above the 6.92% global rate, so this region warrants separate treatment and should not be scaled off the total.
The type mix reported at global level applies here, with Alpha-keratin the largest line at 68% of 2025 revenue and Beta-keratin the fastest-growing at 8.94%. Revenue for Middle East and Africa is broken out by every segmentation axis and by country in the full report.
Saudi Arabia
The largest market in Middle East and Africa, growing 2.0×.
- In region 1 of 2
- Of region 30%
- Of global 1.5%
- Revenue $4.69M → $9.50M
USD 4.69 million of Middle East and Africa's 2025 revenue is generated in Saudi Arabia, the region's largest market, reaching USD 9.5 million by 2034. Its 30% of base-year regional revenue leads the region, though enough sits elsewhere that Middle East and Africa is not a proxy for it. Set against USD 15.62 million and USD 31.68 million for the region, it is why this market, and not a smaller one, is the one reported in full.
Composition here matches the global split: the largest line is Alpha-keratin at 68% of 2025 revenue, easing to 62% by 2034, and the fastest is Beta-keratin at 8.94%, from 32% to 38%. With 30% of Middle East and Africa concentrated here, a change in this country's mix is visible in the regional figures instead of being diluted by its neighbours. Saudi Arabia carries its own type breakdown in the full report.
In Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority regulates keratin tablets as a dietary or food supplement product, requiring the supplier to register the formulation in the authority's product registration system before it can be sold in the market. Registration requires evidence that the composition and any listed ingredient conform to the applicable Gulf standardisation body specifications for supplement products, alongside a Saudi-specific safety and labelling review. Labels must appear in Arabic and English, disclose the ingredient list and intended use, and carry no claim that the product treats or prevents disease, since such statements would place the product under pharmaceutical regulation instead. Imported batches are also subject to border inspection by the authority before distribution.
In Saudi Arabia the field is Garden of Life, Kerotin, Nature's Truth, Nature's Bounty and Nature Made. The commercially relevant division is 68% of 2025 revenue in Alpha-keratin, where the volume is, against 8.94% growth in Beta-keratin, where share moves. That makes Middle East and Africa a 5% share of 2025 global revenue, USD 15.62 million rising to USD 31.68 million, for any supplier deciding where to concentrate.
South Africa
2nd-largest in Middle East and Africa, growing 1.9×.
- In region 2 of 2
- Of region 22%
- Of global 1.1%
- Revenue $3.44M → $6.65M
Within Middle East and Africa, South Africa accounts for 22% of regional revenue and 1.1% of the global total, worth USD 3.44 million in 2025 and USD 6.65 million by 2034.

Competitive Landscape
Scale in Alpha-keratin and Growth in Beta-keratin Set the Terms of Competition
The study covers five suppliers: Garden of Life, Kerotin, Nature's Truth, Nature's Bounty and Nature Made.
The competitive line that matters is the type one, not the geographic one. The largest block of revenue is Alpha-keratin: USD 212.43 million in 2025 at 68% of the total, 62% in 2034. Incumbency there is expensive to challenge. Movement is concentrated in Beta-keratin; 8.94% growth, against 5.82% at the other end of the axis in Alpha-keratin. The two rarely sit with the same supplier, and that is the reason a USD 312.4 million market is not already consolidated.
Suppliers compete mainly on formulation credibility and channel reach, not manufacturing scale, since tableting keratin itself is not capital intensive. Established vitamin brands hold pharmacy and mass-retail shelf position built over decades, letting them add a keratin line without building new relationships. Specialist and digitally native brands compete instead on formulation focus and subscription-based online distribution built around hair, skin and nail claims. Private-label exposure through supermarket and online retailers keeps price pressure on branded suppliers, particularly in the standard-tablet segment where ingredient differentiation is hardest to demonstrate to a shopper comparing bottles on a shelf.
The regional picture sets the entry cost: 42% of revenue is in North America and 24% in Europe, so a credible global position requires both, while Middle East and Africa at 5% can be served opportunistically.
The full report carries a profile, financials, share and development history for each company named; none of that is in this summary.

Research approach
A market size is a claim about the world, and a claim is only as good as the route to it. Every study is built upward from units and prices — what is actually produced, sold or performed, at what it actually changes hands for — rather than from a headline figure divided downwards. Disclosed company revenue is then used to check that build, not to produce it.
The estimate is built upward from unit volumes and realised prices: bottle-count shipments per channel (pharmacy, supermarket and online) multiplied by average retail and wholesale price points for standard, chewable and effervescent formats, adjusted for typical tablet counts per bottle and dosing frequency. Ingredient-cost benchmarks for hydrolyzed keratin protein, split between wool or hair-derived alpha-keratin and feather-derived beta-keratin, anchor the price assumptions at each tier. That bottom-up build is then checked against disclosed revenue and product-line disclosures from major vitamin and supplement manufacturers carrying keratin-labeled SKUs. Where a channel's volume assumption implied a revenue figure inconsistent with a company's own disclosed segment performance, the unit-volume or price assumption was corrected rather than averaged against the disclosed figure.
The four stages
The same sequence runs behind every published study, whatever the industry. The order matters as much as the steps: the segment axes are fixed before any number is collected, so the model is never reshaped to fit whatever data happens to turn up.
What the build rests on, and what checks it
The two are not interchangeable. The left column produces the number; the right column tests it. When the check disagrees with the build, the answer is to find which bottom-up assumption is wrong — a unit count, a price, a take-up rate — not to split the difference between them.
- Volume actually transacted — units produced, installed, dispensed or procedures performed, counted at the level each is genuinely recorded
- Realised pricing by tier and channel, rather than one blended average applied across the whole market
- Take-up and frequency: how much of the addressable base buys, and how often it repeats
- Disclosed revenue of the companies serving the market, where filings separate it far enough to be usable
- Buyer-side spending totals — capital budgets, procurement lines, or the output of the end market the product is bought against
- Trade and customs flows, where the product crosses borders in a separately recorded form
Data sources
Published data establishes what happened. Only the people transacting in a market can say why, and what is about to change — so the two are collected separately and weighted differently.
- Commercial and product leadership at the companies that supply the market
- Procurement and specification leads at the organisations that buy it
- Distributors, integrators and channel partners, where the market is served indirectly
- Regulatory and standards specialists, where approval governs what can be sold at all
- Company filings, annual reports and investor disclosure
- Government statistics, customs records and regulatory registers
- Trade association output and standards-body publications
- Technical and peer-reviewed literature, where the market rests on a clinical or engineering claim
Interviews target category buyers and merchandisers at pharmacy chains and mass retailers, brand managers and formulation leads at vitamin and supplement manufacturers, and ingredient suppliers handling hydrolyzed keratin protein sourcing. Regulatory affairs contacts at supplement manufacturers are included to confirm labeling and health-claim constraints that shape which formulations reach shelf. Sampling emphasises North America and Western Europe, where pharmacy and mass-retail distribution is most developed and where the named branded suppliers are headquartered, supplemented by online-channel sellers and distributors serving Asia Pacific markets where e-commerce is the primary route to the consumer instead of physical retail.
Desk research draws on national supplement and food-safety registers, including FDA dietary supplement facility registrations and labeling filings in the United States, and equivalent notification databases in the European Union and Japan that record keratin-containing supplement products. Import and export customs data under the relevant harmonized system codes for protein-based dietary supplements informs cross-border trade volume estimates. Retail scan data from pharmacy and mass-retail chains, along with published price listings from major online marketplaces, anchors channel-level pricing. Trade association benchmarks from vitamin and supplement industry bodies in the United States and Europe supplement company-level disclosures where available.
Desk research runs across proprietary research databases including Factiva, OneSource and Hoovers alongside the public sources above. Modelling and statistical validation are run in SAS and SPSS.
Forecasting
The forecast is not a growth rate applied to a base year. It is built from the drivers that are expected to change, each one stated so a reader can disagree with it.
The forecast is built from expected growth in online and subscription-based purchasing, continued adoption of combination formulations pairing keratin with biotin or collagen, and a gradual shift in channel mix away from pharmacy toward online store as digitally native brands scale. Regulatory treatment of health claims is assumed to stay within current dietary-supplement labeling rules and not tighten toward drug-level substantiation requirements, since a stricter regime would slow new product launches. Pricing is assumed to hold flat in real terms as private-label competition offsets premium positioning by branded suppliers. The forecast would not hold if regulators reclassify keratin health claims or if a major branded supplier exits the category.
Triangulation and validation
No figure enters a report on the strength of one source. Where the two sizing routes disagree the difference is not averaged away — the assumption causing it is isolated, tested against a third independent measure, and either corrected or carried forward as a stated limitation. Historical years are back-tested against the growth actually recorded before any forecast is allowed to run forward from them.
Historical output was back-tested against recorded growth in the broader hair-skin-nail supplement category over 2020 through 2024 to confirm the keratin-tablet share moves within a plausible band relative to its parent category. Segment-level share shifts, particularly the move toward online store and combination formulations, were reviewed against category buyers' own stated purchasing intentions. Sensitivities were tested on the pace of the pharmacy-to-online channel shift and on ingredient-cost assumptions for alpha- versus beta-keratin protein, since those two variables move the forecast total more than any other single input.
Confidence and limitations
Where an estimate is firm and where it is not is stated rather than left to be inferred from the precision of the number.
Confidence is firmer on channel mix and dosage-format splits, since retail and online pricing for keratin-labeled tablets is directly observable across major branded and private-label listings. It is weaker on the alpha-versus-beta keratin protein source split, since few suppliers disclose which protein source a given SKU actually uses, and on emerging-market volumes, where online marketplace data is thinner than in North America and Western Europe. A structural risk to the whole estimate is regulatory tightening of hair, skin and nail health claims, which could force reformulation or relabeling across a large share of the category with little advance notice.
