Market Analysis & Outlook
Gable top packaging refers to carton-based containers with the angled, peaked closure most commonly seen on milk and juice cartons, built from paperboard laminated with polyethylene or, for shelf-stable products, an additional foil barrier layer. The format is produced in brick, gable top and shaped carton styles and is filled on dedicated carton-forming and filling lines operated by dairies, juice processors and contract fillers. Buyers range from large dairy cooperatives and beverage brand owners specifying carton format and closure type to retailers setting private-label packaging standards.
The global gable top packaging market stood at USD 6.51 billion in 2025. A forecast-period rate of 6.5% takes it to USD 11.47 billion by 2034, and the study reports every year in between, passing USD 5.1 billion in 2020, USD 6.2 billion in 2024, USD 6.93 billion in 2026 and USD 8.92 billion in 2030.
55.7% of 2025 revenue sits in Gable top liquid cartons, worth USD 3.63 billion and rising to USD 6.54 billion at 57% by 2034, the largest type line in both years. Growth is fastest in Shaped liquid cartons at 8.14% and slowest in Brick liquid cartons at 5.2%. The lines gaining share are Gable top liquid cartons and Shaped liquid cartons. Brick liquid cartons lose share without losing revenue.
Cut by shelf life, the largest line is Fresh Liquid Carton: 62% of 2025 revenue, worth USD 4.04 billion, and 58% at USD 6.65 billion by 2034. Aseptic Liquid Carton grows faster at 7.71% against 5.69%, moving from 38% of revenue to 42% by 2034. Both this axis and the type one divide the same revenue, which is why they are alternative views, not components.
Asia Pacific is the largest region at 33.1% of 2025 revenue, worth USD 2.16 billion and reaching USD 4.24 billion by 2034. North America follows at 26.6%, moving from USD 1.73 billion to USD 2.75 billion, and Middle East and Africa is the smallest at 6%. Because Asia Pacific and Latin America take share, the revenue added by 2034 concentrates instead of spreading across all five regions.
The 2025 total is triangulated from published sources and category proxies, with no independently sourced count behind it. Segment, regional and country splits are estimated on the same basis, which bounds the precision of the figures above. Coverage runs to five regions, three type lines and five segmentation axes across a fifteen-year window.

Market Trends
Revenue Share, By By Type
Base year 2025Gable top liquid cartons leads with 55.7% of by type segment revenue.
Share of by type segment revenue, most recent base year.
Three things move over 2026-2034, and they are worth separating: the type mix, the regional balance, and the 6.5% compounding underneath both.
All three are changes in mix, not in direction: nothing contracts, and the movement is in which lines and regions absorb the new revenue.
The type mix tilts toward Shaped liquid cartons. 8.14% against 5.2%: that gap, between Shaped liquid cartons and Brick liquid cartons, is the largest on the type axis. Shares follow: 13.1% to 15% for Shaped liquid cartons, 31.2% to 28% for Brick liquid cartons. Neither contracts: USD 0.85 billion becomes USD 1.72 billion, USD 2.03 billion becomes USD 3.21 billion. What the spread decides is which of them a supplier's revenue is exposed to.
Growth concentrates in Asia Pacific and Latin America. Asia Pacific moves from 33.1% of revenue in 2025 to 37% in 2034, worth USD 2.16 billion rising to USD 4.24 billion; Latin America moves from 10.4% of revenue in 2025 to 11% in 2034, worth USD 0.67 billion rising to USD 1.26 billion. Share moves off the others in turn: North America at 26.6% moving to 24%, Europe at 23.9% moving to 22%, Middle East and Africa at 6% moving to 6%, each still growing in revenue terms. Revenue added in this market is therefore concentrating geographically instead of spreading evenly, and a participant weighted toward a share-losing region grows more slowly than the market even while its own revenue climbs.
Growth compounds at 6.5% without a step change. Reading the series: USD 5.1 billion in 2020, USD 6.2 billion in 2024, USD 6.51 billion in 2025, USD 6.93 billion in 2026, USD 8.92 billion in 2030 and USD 11.47 billion in 2034. No year breaks the trajectory, and the 6.5% forecast rate compares with 5.01% recorded over 2020-2025, a continuation, not an inflection. A plan built on this market is therefore a plan about capturing a share of steady expansion, which is decided on the type and regional axes, not by the headline rate.
Market Growth Factors
The fastest line decides the blended rate
Market Drivers
3- 01The fastest line decides the blended rate
At 8.14% against a market rate of 6.5%, Shaped liquid cartons is the line pulling the average up: USD 0.85 billion to USD 1.72 billion, and 13.1% of revenue to 15%. Nothing else on the axis grows as fast (Brick liquid cartons manages 5.2%) so the blended 6.5% is carried by this one line instead of shared across them. That makes position on the type axis a growth decision, not a product one.
- 02Asia Pacific carries 33.1% of the base and keeps growing
The largest regional base is Asia Pacific: USD 2.16 billion in 2025 at 33.1% of the global total, USD 4.24 billion by 2034 and 37%. North America adds a further 26.6% at USD 1.73 billion, reaching USD 2.75 billion. Most of the base and most of the growth sit in those two, and a plan spread evenly across regions therefore over-invests outside them.
- 03Fifteen years of unbroken growth underpin the forecast
Revenue rose through USD 5.1 billion in 2020, USD 6.2 billion in 2024 and USD 6.51 billion in 2025, a compound 5.01% across the historical period. From there the forecast carries 6.5% through to USD 11.47 billion in 2034. A forecast extending an observed trend is a different proposition from one proposing a turn, and that is why no ramp is applied: the 6.5% runs evenly across the period.

Drivers contribute 5.6 Billion and restraints remove 0.64 Billion, a net 4.96 Billion, which is the revenue the market adds between the base year and 2034. Contributions are CDI estimates, apportioned so that they reconcile with the forecast rather than being read from it.
The 6.5% forecast rate rests on three things that can be measured separately: the size of the existing base, the mix shift on the type axis, and where regional growth is concentrated.
Restraining Factors
The bear case and what drives it
Market Restraints
2- 01The bear case and what drives it
A bear case of USD 9.51 billion in 2034, against USD 11.47 billion in the base case, rests on one stated assumption: bear assumes slower format conversion as brand owners delay switching from PET and pouch formats, combined with sustained paperboard and barrier-material cost inflation that keeps some planned capacity additions on hold. Neither case changes the USD 6.51 billion 2025 base.
- 02Brick liquid cartons grows below the market rate
Brick liquid cartons carries 31.2% of 2025 revenue at USD 2.03 billion but compounds at 5.2% against 6.5% for the market, taking its share to 28% by 2034 even as revenue rises to USD 3.21 billion. Because it carries that much of the base, its pace holds the blended rate down more than any faster line lifts it.
Market Opportunities
Upside case: USD 13.56 billion by 2034
Market Opportunities
2- 01Upside case: USD 13.56 billion by 2034
Bull assumes faster retailer-driven conversion from plastic to fiber-based cartons and quicker expansion of packaged dairy and juice distribution across Asia Pacific and Latin America, holding paperboard costs in line with historical trend. On that assumption the market reaches USD 13.56 billion by 2034 against USD 11.47 billion in the base case, from the same USD 6.51 billion in 2025.
- 02Shaped liquid cartons is where share changes hands
Share on the type axis moves toward Shaped liquid cartons, from 13.1% in 2025 to 15% in 2034, on 8.14% growth against the market's 6.5% and revenue rising from USD 0.85 billion to USD 1.72 billion. Taking position there does not require displacing whoever holds Gable top liquid cartons, which is the harder and more expensive fight.
Market Challenges
One type line carries the market
Market Challenges
2- 01One type line carries the market
One line dominates: Gable top liquid cartons, at 55.7% of revenue in 2025 and 57% in 2034, worth USD 3.63 billion and USD 6.54 billion. That concentration means the market's own forecast is, to a large extent, a forecast for one type line.
- 02China is 39.81% of Asia Pacific
Asia Pacific is worth USD 2.16 billion in 2025 and USD 0.86 billion of that is China; 39.81% of the region, reaching USD 1.7 billion in 2034. A regional number that depends this heavily on one country carries that country's specific conditions inside it, which a reader treating the region as diversified would miss.
Segmentation Analysis
5 axesfive segmentation axes are reported; by type, by shelf life, end-user, capacity and closure type. Revenue does not add across them: each is a different cut of the same total.
Three type lines are reported. Two of them take share over the forecast period and the other gives it up, though every line grows in absolute terms between 2025 and 2034.

| Shaped liquid cartons | $0.85B | 13.1% | $1.72B | 15%+1.9 | 8.1% |
Gable top liquid cartons lead because the format combines shelf stability with curbside recyclability and already runs on the high-speed filling lines dairies operate today, keeping conversion cost low for existing customers. Shaped liquid cartons grow fastest as juice and functional-beverage brands adopt distinctive silhouettes to stand out on crowded shelves and support premium pricing, expanding from a smaller installed base than brick or gable top formats. By 2034 Gable top liquid cartons is still ahead, making this a shift in weight, not a change of leader. Every year of the series is priced on this axis, making it the reference cut for the rest of the report.

| Fresh Liquid Carton | $4.04B | 62% | $6.65B | 58%-4 | 5.7% |
Fresh liquid cartons lead because pasteurized dairy sold through cold-chain retail remains the largest application, and gable top filling infrastructure at dairies already favors short-shelf-life products. Aseptic cartons grow fastest as plant-based beverages and ambient dairy alternatives expand into regions without consistent cold chain, cutting distribution cost and widening the retail channels a brand can reach. Fresh Liquid Carton remains the largest line through 2034, so the axis changes in proportion, not in order.

| Others | $0.85B | 13% | $1.49B | 13% | 6.4% |
Dairy products lead because milk remains the highest-volume application in every major region and dairies already run gable top filling lines at scale, leaving little incremental cost to add capacity. Juice grows fastest as beverage brands replace PET bottles and aseptic pouches with cartons to meet retailer sustainability targets, and as cold-pressed and functional juice lines favoring premium carton presentation expand their distribution. By 2034 Dairy products is still ahead, making this a shift in weight, not a change of leader.

| Above 1 Liter | $2.15B | 33% | $3.56B | 31%-2 | 5.8% |
The 500 milliliter to 1 liter pack leads because it matches typical household consumption cycles for milk and juice and fits the case configurations retailers already stock on shelf. Packs up to 500 milliliters grow fastest as single-serve consumption through convenience channels and food-service outlets expands, supported by smaller-format filling lines that let brands add pack sizes without new capital investment. The order does not change: 500 ml to 1 Liter is still largest in 2034, and what moves is how much it holds.

| Spout Closure | $0.98B | 15% | $2.64B | 23%+8 | 11.7% |
Screw cap closures lead because resealability is now the default expectation for both dairy and juice buyers, and most filling lines already carry the tooling for this format. Spout closures grow fastest as juice and functional-beverage brands adopt them for easier one-handed pouring and to visually set premium lines apart on shelf, even though their installed base stays smaller than screw caps because line conversion takes time. Screw Cap remains the largest line through 2034, so the axis changes in proportion, not in order.

- Rank 2 of 5
- 2025 share 26.6%
- By 2034 24%
- Revenue $1.73B → $2.75B
North America holds 26.6% of the global gable top packaging market in 2025, worth USD 1.73 billion with USD 2.75 billion projected for 2034. It is a leading region on this axis, second by revenue throughout the period.
Share settles at 24% in 2034, while nothing contracts here; other regions simply grow faster, which shows up as relative weight, not as falling revenue.
Gable top liquid cartons leads here as it does globally, at 55.7% of 2025 revenue, and Shaped liquid cartons again grows fastest at 8.14%. North America is reported axis by axis and country by country in the full study.

- In region 1 of 2
- Of region 82.1%
- Of global 21.8%
- Revenue $1.42B → $2.26B
The United States is the largest market within North America, generating USD 1.42 billion in 2025 and projected to reach USD 2.26 billion by 2034. At 82.08% of regional revenue in the base year it is not one market among several, the region's trajectory is largely this country's trajectory. Set against USD 1.73 billion and USD 2.75 billion for the region, it is why this market, and not a smaller one, is the one reported in full.
The type pattern in the United States is the global one: 55.7% of 2025 revenue in Gable top liquid cartons, 57% by 2034, against 8.14% growth in Shaped liquid cartons taking it from 13.1% to 15%. With 82.08% of North America concentrated here, a change in this country's mix is visible in the regional figures instead of being diluted by its neighbours. Revenue by type for the United States is reported separately in the full report.
Gable top cartons used for milk, juice, and similar beverages fall under the Food and Drug Administration's food-contact substance framework, since any packaging material touching food is treated as an indirect food additive. Suppliers must show that the paperboard, polyethylene coating, and any barrier layers are FDA-listed or covered by an existing food-contact notification for that intended use. Labelling on the finished carton must meet the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act alongside FDA nutrition and ingredient disclosure rules where the product is a food item. Packaging destined for dairy also intersects with state-level dairy sanitation codes, which reference federal Grade A standards for container integrity and sealing. Suppliers are expected to maintain documentation tracing resin and coating sources for audit purposes, and recyclability claims on the carton are subject to Federal Trade Commission Green Guides scrutiny.
Competition in the United States runs between the suppliers this study tracks: Parksons Packaging Ltd., Carton Service Inc., Evergreen Packaging Inc., UNITED CAPS LUXEMBOURG S.A, Tetra Pak, International S.A., Elopak Inc., Silgan Plastic Closure Solutions, Closure Systems International Inc., Berry Global Inc. and O.Berk. Two different problems sit on the same axis: holding Gable top liquid cartons at 55.7% of 2025 revenue, and taking Shaped liquid cartons while it grows at 8.14%. Per-company positioning and share at country level are in the full report only.

Europe holds 23.9% of the global gable top packaging market in 2025, worth USD 1.56 billion and reaches USD 2.52 billion by 2034. That makes it the third-largest region covered, in 2025 and again in 2034.
Its share moves to 22% by 2034, a shift in share, not in direction: revenue climbs every year while the market's centre of gravity moves elsewhere.
The type mix reported at global level applies here, with Gable top liquid cartons the largest line at 55.7% of 2025 revenue and Shaped liquid cartons the fastest-growing at 8.14%. Revenue for Europe is broken out by every segmentation axis and by country in the full report.
Germany
The largest market in Europe, growing 1.6×.
- In region 1 of 2
- Of region 30.1%
- Of global 7.2%
- Revenue $0.47B → $0.76B
Germany is the largest market within Europe, generating USD 0.47 billion in 2025 and projected to reach USD 0.76 billion by 2034. Its 30.13% of base-year regional revenue leads the region, though enough sits elsewhere that Europe is not a proxy for it. Regional revenue of USD 1.56 billion in 2025 and USD 2.52 billion in 2034 sits around it, and it is the country used wherever the full report cuts a figure by geography.
Germany buys along the same lines as the market globally; Gable top liquid cartons first at 55.7% of 2025 revenue and 57% in 2034, Shaped liquid cartons fastest at 8.14% on a share moving from 13.1% to 15%. Since 30.13% of Europe's revenue is generated here, the regional numbers inherit this market's mix instead of smoothing it out. Per-type revenue for Germany appears on its own in the full report.
As an European Union member state, Germany applies the EU framework for food-contact materials, meaning any gable top carton holding liquid food must be manufactured from substances cleared under the relevant food-contact plastics and paperboard rules, with a declaration of compliance accompanying each batch supplied to a filler. National implementation adds the German Food, Commodities and Feed Code, which enforces these requirements domestically and empowers local authorities to inspect converters. Packaging placed on the German market also falls under the Packaging Act, which obliges producers to register with the central packaging register and finance take-back and recycling obligations tied to the carton's material composition. Labelling must carry the required recycling symbol and comply with EU rules on mandatory food information. Fibre-based cartons with a polyethylene or aluminium layer are assessed for recyclability under these same producer-responsibility rules.
Competition in Germany runs between the suppliers this study tracks: Parksons Packaging Ltd., Carton Service Inc., Evergreen Packaging Inc., UNITED CAPS LUXEMBOURG S.A, Tetra Pak, International S.A., Elopak Inc., Silgan Plastic Closure Solutions, Closure Systems International Inc., Berry Global Inc. and O.Berk. Gable top liquid cartons, at 55.7% of 2025 revenue, is where the volume sits, and Shaped liquid cartons, growing at 8.14%, is where position changes hands over the forecast period. A supplier weighted toward Europe is competing over a base of USD 1.56 billion in 2025 reaching USD 2.52 billion by 2034, 23.9% of global revenue at the start of that period.

Asia Pacific Market Analysis
The largest region covered, and the one gaining the most — it picks up 3.9 points of share by 2034, while revenue still grows 2.0×.
- Rank 1 of 5
- 2025 share 33.1%
- By 2034 37%
- Revenue $2.16B → $4.24B
USD 2.16 billion of 2025 revenue is generated in Asia Pacific, 33.1% of the global gable top packaging market rising to USD 4.24 billion in 2034. That makes it the first-largest region covered, in 2025 and again in 2034.
37% of global revenue sits here by 2034, up from the 2025 level, so the region grows faster than the market's 6.5% and takes a larger part of the revenue added by 2034 than its 2025 weight implies.
Within the region the type split tracks the global one; 55.7% of 2025 revenue in Gable top liquid cartons, fastest growth of 8.14% in Shaped liquid cartons. Revenue for Asia Pacific is broken out by every segmentation axis and by country in the full report.

USD 0.86 billion of Asia Pacific's 2025 revenue is generated in China, the region's largest market, reaching USD 1.7 billion by 2034. Its 39.81% of base-year regional revenue leads the region, though enough sits elsewhere that Asia Pacific is not a proxy for it. Against regional totals of USD 2.16 billion in 2025 and USD 4.24 billion in 2034, it is the country the full report breaks out in detail.
Demand in China follows the type mix reported at global level: Gable top liquid cartons is the largest line at 55.7% of 2025 revenue, moving to 57% by 2034, while Shaped liquid cartons grows fastest at 8.14% and takes its share from 13.1% to 15%. With 39.81% of Asia Pacific concentrated here, a change in this country's mix is visible in the regional figures instead of being diluted by its neighbours. The full report reports China by type separately.
Gable top cartons intended for liquid food contact in China are governed by the national food safety standards system administered under the State Administration for Market Regulation, which sets composition and migration limits for paper, plastic, and composite packaging materials touching food. A converter or filler must ensure the carton's board, coating, and any laminate meet the applicable food-contact material standard before the package reaches a filling line, and finished products carry labelling that conforms to the general standard for the labelling of prepackaged foods, covering ingredient, shelf-life, and storage information. Dairy and juice fillers operating under this regime are also subject to production licensing administered by market regulation authorities, which reviews packaging integrity and sealing as part of plant certification. Import of packaging materials or filled cartons is additionally subject to customs inspection against these same food-contact standards.
The suppliers tracked in this study (Parksons Packaging Ltd., Carton Service Inc., Evergreen Packaging Inc., UNITED CAPS LUXEMBOURG S.A, Tetra Pak, International S.A., Elopak Inc., Silgan Plastic Closure Solutions, Closure Systems International Inc., Berry Global Inc. and O.Berk) compete in China across the type lines above. Two different problems sit on the same axis: holding Gable top liquid cartons at 55.7% of 2025 revenue, and taking Shaped liquid cartons while it grows at 8.14%. The commercial size of that position is USD 2.16 billion in 2025, moving to USD 4.24 billion by 2034 across the forecast period.

Latin America Market Analysis
The 4th-largest region covered — it picks up 0.6 points of share by 2034, while revenue still grows 1.9×.
- Rank 4 of 5
- 2025 share 10.4%
- By 2034 11%
- Revenue $0.67B → $1.26B
10.4% of the global gable top packaging market sits in Latin America in 2025, worth USD 0.67 billion on the way to USD 1.26 billion by 2034. That makes it the fourth-largest region covered, in 2025 and again in 2034.
Its share rises to 11% over the forecast period, so the region grows faster than the market's 6.5% and takes a larger part of the revenue added by 2034 than its 2025 weight implies.
Within the region the type split tracks the global one; 55.7% of 2025 revenue in Gable top liquid cartons, fastest growth of 8.14% in Shaped liquid cartons. Latin America is reported axis by axis and country by country in the full study.
Brazil
The largest market in Latin America, growing 1.9×.
- In region 1 of 2
- Of region 44.8%
- Of global 4.6%
- Revenue $0.30B → $0.57B
USD 0.3 billion of Latin America's 2025 revenue is generated in Brazil, the region's largest market, reaching USD 0.57 billion by 2034. It accounts for 44.78% of regional revenue in the base year, the largest single share without dominating the region outright. The region itself runs USD 0.67 billion to USD 1.26 billion over the same period, and this is the market carrying the country-level detail in the full report.
Composition here matches the global split: the largest line is Gable top liquid cartons at 55.7% of 2025 revenue, easing to 57% by 2034, and the fastest is Shaped liquid cartons at 8.14%, from 13.1% to 15%. With 44.78% of Latin America concentrated here, a change in this country's mix is visible in the regional figures instead of being diluted by its neighbours. Per-type revenue for Brazil appears on its own in the full report.
Packaging used for milk, juice, and other liquid foods in Brazil is regulated by the National Health Surveillance Agency, which sets technical requirements for materials in contact with food, including the paperboard, polyethylene, and foil layers found in a gable top carton. A supplier must demonstrate that these layers meet the agency's positive lists and migration limits before the packaging is approved for use by a filler. Labelling on the finished carton must comply with the national food labelling regulation, covering nutritional declarations, allergen statements, and any recycling or environmental claims, which are separately overseen under Brazil's solid waste policy and its reverse logistics obligations for packaging producers. Fillers of dairy products also answer to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply for hygiene and packaging integrity standards applied at the point of processing.
Competition in Brazil runs between the suppliers this study tracks: Parksons Packaging Ltd., Carton Service Inc., Evergreen Packaging Inc., UNITED CAPS LUXEMBOURG S.A, Tetra Pak, International S.A., Elopak Inc., Silgan Plastic Closure Solutions, Closure Systems International Inc., Berry Global Inc. and O.Berk. Two different problems sit on the same axis: holding Gable top liquid cartons at 55.7% of 2025 revenue, and taking Shaped liquid cartons while it grows at 8.14%. A supplier weighted toward Latin America is competing over a base of USD 0.67 billion in 2025 reaching USD 1.26 billion by 2034, 10.4% of global revenue at the start of that period.

- In region 1 of 2
- Of region 35.9%
- Of global 2.1%
- Revenue $0.14B → $0.24B
Saudi Arabia is the largest market within Middle East and Africa, generating USD 0.14 billion in 2025 and projected to reach USD 0.24 billion by 2034. 35.9% of the region in the base year makes it the largest market here without making it the region. Regional revenue of USD 0.39 billion in 2025 and USD 0.69 billion in 2034 sits around it, and it is the country used wherever the full report cuts a figure by geography.
The type pattern in Saudi Arabia is the global one: 55.7% of 2025 revenue in Gable top liquid cartons, 57% by 2034, against 8.14% growth in Shaped liquid cartons taking it from 13.1% to 15%. With 35.9% of Middle East and Africa concentrated here, a change in this country's mix is visible in the regional figures instead of being diluted by its neighbours. Saudi Arabia carries its own type breakdown in the full report.
Food packaging in Saudi Arabia, including gable top cartons for milk and juice, falls under the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, which applies technical regulations for food-contact materials developed in coordination with the Gulf Standardization Organization. A supplier must show that the paperboard and polymer or foil components conform to the relevant Gulf or Saudi standard for food-contact packaging before a filler may use the carton for a regulated beverage or dairy product. Labelling must meet the Gulf technical regulation on food labelling, which sets requirements for ingredient listing, production and expiry dating, and storage instructions in Arabic alongside any other language used. Importers of finished cartons or filled products are subject to conformity assessment and registration through the Saudi Product Safety Program before goods clear customs.
Competition in Saudi Arabia runs between the suppliers this study tracks: Parksons Packaging Ltd., Carton Service Inc., Evergreen Packaging Inc., UNITED CAPS LUXEMBOURG S.A, Tetra Pak, International S.A., Elopak Inc., Silgan Plastic Closure Solutions, Closure Systems International Inc., Berry Global Inc. and O.Berk. It covers the drivers, trends, opportunities, restraints and challenges shaping growth, the competitive landscape and the companies profiled, and the research methodology behind every estimate. Segmentation is reported by Type, Shelf Life, End-User, Capacity, Closure Type, and regional analysis covers North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Middle East and Africa, each broken out by country.
Competitive Landscape
Suppliers Compete on Gable top liquid cartons Volume and Shaped liquid cartons Momentum
Suppliers in scope: Parksons Packaging Ltd., Carton Service Inc., Evergreen Packaging Inc., UNITED CAPS LUXEMBOURG S.A, Tetra Pak, International S.A., Elopak Inc., Silgan Plastic Closure Solutions, Closure Systems International Inc., Berry Global Inc. and O.Berk.
The type axis, not the regional one, is where competition happens. Volume sits in Gable top liquid cartons, USD 3.63 billion and 55.7% of 2025 revenue, 57% by 2034, which is also where an incumbent is hardest to dislodge. Movement is concentrated in Shaped liquid cartons; 8.14% growth, against 5.2% at the other end of the axis in Brick liquid cartons. Those are different problems, and a supplier strong in one is not thereby strong in the other; that is what sustains a field this size in a USD 6.51 billion market.
Suppliers separate mainly on filling-system integration. Tetra Pak, SIG Group and Greatview Aseptic Packaging bundle proprietary filling lines with carton board and ongoing technical service, raising switching cost for large dairy and juice processors. Paperboard scale and vertical integration into barrier coatings favor Evergreen Packaging and Stora Enso. Closure specialists such as United Caps, Silgan Plastic Closure Solutions and Closure Systems International compete narrowly on caps and spouts, not full carton systems. Regional converters including Parksons Packaging and Carton Service compete on proximity and responsiveness for brand owners who already run their own filling equipment, while smaller distributors such as O.Berk serve buyers with lower order volumes.
Geographic reach is the other axis of competition. Asia Pacific alone accounts for 33.1% of 2025 revenue, so a supplier absent there is absent from the largest part of the market whatever its position elsewhere; North America adds a further 26.6%.

Research approach
A market size is a claim about the world, and a claim is only as good as the route to it. Every study is built upward from units and prices — what is actually produced, sold or performed, at what it actually changes hands for — rather than from a headline figure divided downwards. Disclosed company revenue is then used to check that build, not to produce it.
The market was built upward from unit volumes: liquid carton shipment volumes by pack format and capacity band, filling-line output rates reported by converters, and per-carton realized prices across dairy, juice and other beverage categories. National dairy production and packaged-juice consumption data anchor volume by end use, and country-level price points are applied by format and closure type to convert units into revenue. That bottom-up build is then checked against disclosed revenue and packaging-segment disclosures from major carton suppliers and paperboard producers named in this report. Where the two diverge, for example when a country's implied per-carton price falls outside the disclosed range, the bottom-up volume or price assumption is corrected rather than the company-reported figure.
The four stages
The same sequence runs behind every published study, whatever the industry. The order matters as much as the steps: the segment axes are fixed before any number is collected, so the model is never reshaped to fit whatever data happens to turn up.
What the build rests on, and what checks it
The two are not interchangeable. The left column produces the number; the right column tests it. When the check disagrees with the build, the answer is to find which bottom-up assumption is wrong — a unit count, a price, a take-up rate — not to split the difference between them.
- Volume actually transacted — units produced, installed, dispensed or procedures performed, counted at the level each is genuinely recorded
- Realised pricing by tier and channel, rather than one blended average applied across the whole market
- Take-up and frequency: how much of the addressable base buys, and how often it repeats
- Disclosed revenue of the companies serving the market, where filings separate it far enough to be usable
- Buyer-side spending totals — capital budgets, procurement lines, or the output of the end market the product is bought against
- Trade and customs flows, where the product crosses borders in a separately recorded form
Data sources
Published data establishes what happened. Only the people transacting in a market can say why, and what is about to change — so the two are collected separately and weighted differently.
- Commercial and product leadership at the companies that supply the market
- Procurement and specification leads at the organisations that buy it
- Distributors, integrators and channel partners, where the market is served indirectly
- Regulatory and standards specialists, where approval governs what can be sold at all
- Company filings, annual reports and investor disclosure
- Government statistics, customs records and regulatory registers
- Trade association output and standards-body publications
- Technical and peer-reviewed literature, where the market rests on a clinical or engineering claim
Primary outreach targets commercial and procurement roles at dairy and juice processors who specify carton format, capacity and closure type, plus packaging engineers and buyers at contract fillers who set filling-line specifications. Conversations with converter sales and business-development contacts cover order volumes, price trends and lead times for board and barrier film. Regulatory and sustainability contacts at retailers and brand owners are included where extended producer responsibility rules or recyclability requirements are shaping format choice. Sampling emphasizes North America, Europe and the larger Asia Pacific dairy and juice markets, where converter capacity and end-user demand are concentrated, with lighter coverage of Latin America and Middle East and Africa reflecting smaller installed converting capacity in those regions.
Desk research draws on national dairy production and consumption statistics published by agriculture ministries and industry boards, customs trade data under the paperboard and converted-carton tariff codes, and packaging-segment disclosures in the annual filings of Tetra Pak's parent group, SIG Group and other listed carton and closure suppliers named in this report. Paperboard price benchmarks are taken from published pulp-and-paper market indices, and recyclability and extended producer responsibility program registers maintained by national packaging-recovery organizations inform the shelf-life and closure-type breakdowns. Retail scanner data on packaged milk and juice formats supplements the volume build in markets where it is available.
Desk research runs across proprietary research databases including Factiva, OneSource and Hoovers alongside the public sources above. Modelling and statistical validation are run in SAS and SPSS.
Forecasting
The forecast is not a growth rate applied to a base year. It is built from the drivers that are expected to change, each one stated so a reader can disagree with it.
The forecast carries forward the volume build using country-level dairy and juice consumption growth, the pace at which juice and functional-beverage brands are converting from PET and pouch formats to cartons, and the rate at which plant-based and shelf-stable beverages are expanding into regions with limited cold chain. Price assumptions hold real per-carton prices broadly flat and pass through paperboard and barrier-material cost changes instead of assuming margin expansion. The base year's elevated paperboard pricing is normalized against its longer-run trend so the forecast is not anchored to a temporary cost spike. For the forecast to hold, format conversion needs to continue at the pace observed over the last two historical years and not plateau.
Triangulation and validation
No figure enters a report on the strength of one source. Where the two sizing routes disagree the difference is not averaged away — the assumption causing it is isolated, tested against a third independent measure, and either corrected or carried forward as a stated limitation. Historical years are back-tested against the growth actually recorded before any forecast is allowed to run forward from them.
Outputs were back-tested against recorded 2020-2024 growth in packaged milk and juice volumes and against the shipment trends reported by major carton and paperboard suppliers over the same period, so the modeled historical series matches observed growth before any forecast year is added. Segment shifts, including the move toward aseptic and shaped formats, were reviewed against converter capacity announcements and retailer format changes to confirm the direction and general pace of the shift are consistent with what is publicly observable. Sensitivities were run on paperboard price, format conversion pace and plant-based beverage growth, since these three assumptions move the forecast total the most if any is wrong.
Confidence and limitations
Where an estimate is firm and where it is not is stated rather than left to be inferred from the precision of the number.
Confidence is firmer for the dairy end use and the North America and Europe regions, where packaged milk and juice volumes and carton supplier shipments are both well reported and consistent with each other. Confidence is weaker for the shaped-carton and spout-closure lines and for Middle East and Africa, where formal volume reporting is thin and the estimate leans more on adjacent-market analogues. A structural risk to watch is a faster-than-assumed shift away from cartons toward flexible pouches in price-sensitive markets, which would require revising both the end-user and closure-type splits, not just the regional pace of growth.
