A solar carport is a ground-mounted photovoltaic structure built over a paved parking area, pairing canopy-style racking and a steel or aluminum frame with modules mounted above vehicle bays. Layouts range from a single row of shaded spaces to two-row structures spanning multiple lanes, and many new installations now pair the panels with electric-vehicle charging equipment. Buyers include commercial property owners, retailers, corporate and logistics campuses, government agencies, and educational institutions looking to generate power on land already committed to parking.
Falling module and racking costs account for the largest share of the market's growth over the forecast period; the report rates this driver's impact as high. The type segment most exposed to it moves fastest: 2-row Dual Slope Vehicle Arrangement compounds at 16.27% a year, more than three points ahead of the market average, lifting its share of revenue from 23% in 2025 to 30% in 2034 and its value from USD 202 million to USD 788 million.
By type, 2-row Single Slope Vehicle Arrangement holds the largest revenue base at USD 343 million in 2025, 39% of the total, narrowing only slightly to 38% by 2034. Commercial buyers generate 55% of 2025 application revenue, USD 484 million, though K-12 installations grow fastest, at 15.84% a year. Among capacity bands, systems sized 100 kW to 500 kW lead with 42% of 2025 revenue (USD 370 million), while installations above 1 MW expand fastest, at 18.91%. Solar PV modules remain the largest component category, USD 352 million and 40% of 2025 revenue, and EV charging integration is the fastest-growing component, at 18.13%. New construction accounts for 68% of 2025 revenue (USD 598 million); retrofit and replacement work grows faster, at 15.73%.
North America generated 38% of 2025 revenue, USD 334 million, and is projected to reach USD 867 million by 2034; the United States alone accounts for USD 261 million of the 2025 total, 29.7% of the global figure. Asia Pacific's share climbs from 24% in 2025 to 30% in 2034, with revenue rising from USD 211 million to USD 788 million over the same span. Middle East and Africa stays the smallest region throughout, moving from 5% of 2025 revenue to 6% by 2034.
Two conditions could pull the 2034 total below its USD 2,628 million base case, to USD 2,208 million in the report's downside scenario: slower permitting and interconnection processing, and higher financing costs for commercial solar projects, either of which would push planned installations past the forecast window. A further pressure point sits inside the largest type segment itself: 2-row Single Slope Vehicle Arrangement, at 39% of 2025 revenue, compounds at only 12.62%, below the market's own 12.95% average, so the overall growth rate depends on smaller segments carrying more of the increase than their current size would suggest. Faster adoption of parking-lot solar mandates comparable to France's, paired with steeper cost declines across all regions, could lift the total to USD 3,101 million instead.
