Significant Market Dynamics:
Drivers:
The demand for energy saving in different industries around the world has always existed. Governments and international organizations are working to raise awareness and assist in energy conservation. For example, the European Commission created four scenarios in 2017 to examine higher targets for the EU's 2030 energy efficiency goals. The analysis compared energy efficiency improvements at various levels of ambition to 2030 with a 2007 baseline. Each of the scenarios simulated produces a positive change in GDP, ranging from 0.1 percent GDP growth in the least ambitious scenario to 2.0 percent GDP growth in the most aggressive energy efficiency scenario. Power device analyzers play an important role in improving system efficiency by helping to analyze distortion in power supplies. Hence, increasing focus on energy saving will drive the demand for power device analyzers.
Restraints:
Branded power device analyzers cost more than locally manufactured analyzers and gray market supply is very strong. Hence, the major power device analyzer manufacturers face stiff competition from unorganized players in the market offering substandard products. Unorganized players in the market include local and gray market players; local players sell goods manufactured in-house under their local brand names, while gray market players import and sell goods through unauthorized dealers. These market players from the unorganized sector overwhelm the big players in terms of price, competitiveness, and the local supply network they maintain, which is difficult for global players to achieve. Also, local distributors bring these locally produced devices to the market due to higher profit margins. In addition to this, due to the lack of strict government regulation on energy waste, many small and medium enterprises, especially in developing economies such as Southeast Asian countries, prefer to use locally manufactured power device analyzers due to their lower cost. Therefore, local Increased sales to gray market players reduces the chances of global players to increase their revenue (market share). These market factors restrict the growth of branded power device analyzer manufacturers.
Opportunity:
The world is increasingly turning to renewable energy. As a result, various government policies and programs are in place to encourage the use of renewable energy worldwide. In order to reduce carbon emissions and achieve the Paris Agreement, the future energy mix will rely more on renewable energy. Consequently, several solar and wind (offshore and onshore) energy projects are underway in various countries or planned for the future. In addition, the renewable energy industry is growing strongly, with investment coming from private companies and governments.
Power device analyzers are being used extensively in the solar industry for testing solar cells and other purposes. To properly characterize a solar cell, test equipment capable of generating and measuring currents ranging from nanoamps to 10 amps and beyond is often required. In addition, many power devices require high bias voltage capacitance measurement capabilities to accurately predict the switching characteristics of power devices and allow materials researchers to perform sufficiently thorough characterization of doping profiles. Also, in the field of wind power generation, power device analyzers are widely used for testing purposes. Wind turbines must comply with many regulations, including electricity codes. Therefore, many companies offer comprehensive power test solutions through their power device analyzers.
Challenges:
Power device analyzers can cost thousands of dollars. Therefore, it is difficult for small and medium industries to invest in power device analyzers. The initial investment in a power device analyzer can have a long payback period; therefore, many industries avoid purchasing this equipment, or prefer equipment from local manufacturers, which cost less than branded and established equipment. The research and development (R&D) facilities required to develop power device analyzers exist in large, well-known companies with high revenues. Therefore, the effective cost of the equipment is higher than that of local manufacturers and gray market suppliers. In addition, lower profit margins for branded power device analyzers further motivate distributors to promote local products to buyers. Currently, investments in purchasing Power Device Analyzers are observed from large institutional buyers or large industries. However, increasing awareness regarding energy conservation and government regulations are likely to drive small industries to invest in this market.
